Hear Rate and Mortality

A study published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings in December 2013 found that those with a resting heart rate above 80 beats/minute were at greater risk for cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality than those with a resting heart rate of less than 60 beats/minute. The highest cardiorespiratory fitness with the lowest mortality was found in those with a resting heart rate of less than 60 beats/minute. I found it interesting that fit people with a high resting heart rate had a similar risk for cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality than unfit people with a low resting heart rate.
