Glucose Levels and Dementia Risk

The New England Journal of Medicine published an interesting study showing that patients with elevated glucose levels, even if  the magic number of 126 mg/dL, whereby the patient is considered to have diabetes mellitus, has not been reached, increases the risk for dementia. It has long been known that diabetes is a risk factor for dementia and cognitive dysfunction. I think it is only now being appreciated that even high normal blood glucose levels puts one at risk for cognitive impairment. High glycemic index foods such as white bread, white rice, and potatoes increase the blood glucose levels. But other processed carbs will as well.
