Therapies & Techniques

At North Shore Spine and Rehab, we provide chiropractic care for residents of Woburn, MA. Chiropractic care can provide pain relief and improve your overall health.

Chiropractic Techniques

Chiropractic techniques are specific methods of delivering chiropractic adjustments. These include the manual technique, drop table technique and active release technique.

Manual Technique

The manual technique is the most common technique chiropractors use to perform adjustments. Your chiropractor will use gentle thrusts and pressure to manipulate your joints into the correct alignment.

Drop-Table Technique

The drop table technique is used when gentle adjustments are needed. Rather than quick, forceful movements, the drop table technique utilizes slower, gentler movements to correct misalignment.

A special table is used. The table is designed to drop slightly during adjustment, allowing gravity to help perform the adjustment.

 Active Release Technique

The active release technique focuses on the muscles and tissues. Injuries can cause scar tissue to develop. Scar tissue is stiff and can restrict movement and cause pain. The active release technique treats this issue with techniques similar to massage.

Chiropractic Therapies

Chiropractic therapies are treatments that can be used alongside chiropractic care. These therapies can help you get the best results from chiropractic treatment.

Heat Therapy

Heat therapy is often low-tech, but it can be an effective treatment for pain. Heat can increase blood flow and relax tight muscles, which can be helpful during your appointment.

Heat therapy includes moist heat pads, paraffin dips, and whirlpool baths.

Cold Therapy

Cold therapy, also known as cryotherapy, is another simple treatment with big benefits. Cold therapy can be used to reduce swelling and inflammation and pain.

It's ideal for acute injuries, including sprains, strains, and bruising. Generally, cold therapy is best when used within 72 hours after an injury.

Cold therapy includes ice packs, cold, moist towels, and cryobaths.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy, also known as cold laser therapy, uses a laser to treat injuries and pain. The light from the laser penetrates deep into the tissues.

Exactly how laser therapy works is unclear. It's theorized that the body converts light to another type of energy. What is clear is that laser therapy triggers the body's natural healing ability, including cell regeneration. It also increases blood flow and reduces pain and inflammation.

Myofascial Release

The myofascia is fibrous membranes that create a sheath for your muscles. Fascia can become stiff or contracted, which restricts movement and causes pain.

Myofascial release uses pressure in specific areas to cause the fascia to release, or relax.
