How Does Traction Therapy Work?

The procedure stretches the spinal column to relieve back and neck pain gently. First, the pressure is placed on the discs, creating negative pressure. Once the discs feel the pressure, they retract and develop a reverse vacuum.

When our qualified chiropractor does spinal decompression, there is good blood flow to the spinal discs. That promotes oxygen flow inside the disc, which promotes tissue repair, giving patients long-term recovery.

The procedure does not involve any surgery, and that's why it is referred to as nonsurgical decompression therapy.

When this procedure is compared with cervical traction, lumbar traction, and intersegmental traction, it has a few differences.

Cervical traction involves pulling the head to create a space between the neck where lumbar traction concentrates on the pelvic bone. Finally, intersegmental traction targets the muscles. However, the spine is the primary target.

Chiropractic Spinal Decompression Traction Process

Our chiropractor takes the patient's personal information, like body weight, spinal condition, and level of sensitivity, to personalize the treatment. Then he fits two harnesses, one around the pelvis and the other around the legs.

The patient lies on a computer-controlled table, and once that is done, our chiropractor adjusts the table. The lower back can then slide up and down comfortably, aligning the spine and alleviating pain.

It is a painless process, except for people with disc trauma. However, the patient can always speak up or press the safety switch if uncomfortable.
