Conditions That Physical Therapy Help

Physical therapy is prescribed to help patients like you increase motion, restore function, and return to daily activities without pain.  Physical therapy or "medically directed rehab" restore your body to it's proper balance and function by stretching muscles that are chronically tight and strengthening muscles that have weakened over time. Our Edgewater and New Smyrna Beach, FL patients include many individuals that have been involved in auto accidents and are suffering from whiplash conditions.

Typical treatment will include a series of stretches, cervical traction, and mobilizations. Exercises prescribed by the provider are designed to increase your endurance and strengthen muscles that may have been weakened due to an injury such as an auto accident. More advanced exercises focus on improving strength, balance, and coordination. Our goal is to help you reach your health goals and to allow you to function at home and work without pain.

How Physical Therapy Works
In our office, we work as a team to get you better. This may include treatments such as chiropractic care, trigger point injections and physical therapy. Our providers will do several tests to determine what is best for you and your case after doing a thorough history and examination along with any necessary diagnostic tests such as x-rays. After reviewing your case, if it is medically necessary, you will be prescribed physical therapy. Physical therapy is designed to help your body restore it's normal function and get you back to your daily activities without pain.

Every session will build on the last as you get stronger and improve. Sessions typically last up to one hour.

While your doctors recommend the best care plan for you, it is equally important that you are consistent with your treatment to get the results that you need and want. Your results ultimately depend on you.

Prepare for your Appointment

Because your medically directed rehab requires different movements, it is important that you come properly dressed. Loos fitted clothing and comfortable shoes are best and it is good to avoid skirts and sandals.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) or Muscle Stimulation is a great therapy to get tight muscles to relax. Tight muscles that are in spasm can be calmed down with this passive therapy. This is done by sending a small electrical current through the muscle in spasm allowing it to relax. Most patients say they feel a sense of relaxation and even fall asleep while having this done.
