Specific Spinal Adjustments

Prior to executing a Specific Spinal Adjustment, the Chiropractor will typically do an assessment of the nerve and blood supply in the treatment area, as well as look at the bone and muscles themselves. This will help the Chiropractor determine where and how to adjust.

Specific spinal adjustments also known as Spinal manipulative therapy is a physical treatment used by Chiropractors to aid the healing of the neuro-musculoskeletal system.

This takes a hands-on approach rather than using instruments or machines. When a Chiropractor uses their hands during an adjustment, they apply a light and quick pressure on the joint in order to restore motion to that joint. The adjustment restores the sliding motion of joints and allows them to open and close efficiently. This is done by taking a joint to, but not beyond, its' restrictive barrier.

When there is a lack of motion within a joint it can lead to pain, discomfort and an interruption in function, movement and posture.

By implementing a specific spinal adjustment, the following can occur:

  • An increase in joint range of motion
  • A decrease or elimination of soft tissue inflammation
  • Pain regulation
  • Relaxation
  • Healing, stability and/or extension of contractile and non-contractile tissue
  • Ease in movement and restoration of function
