Whiplash

Whiplash Treatment at Hildebrand Chiropractic

In the frightening split-second of an automobile impact, everything may seem to stand still -- except, unfortunately, your neck and head. All too often the result is a painful injury syndrome known as whiplash. Without immediate evaluation and treatment, the damage caused by whiplash can become more and more debilitating. But you can get relief for your suffering and avoid long-term complications by taking advantage of the all-natural whiplash treatment options at Hildebrand Chiropractic.

Auto accident in San Antonio.

Sudden Causes, Lingering Pain

Whiplash occurs when the head is thrown backward and then forward at high speed. This causes hyperextension (when going backward) and hyperflexion (when going forward), forcing your neck structures beyond their normal range of motion. Even a "gentle" low-speed bump is sufficient to send the weight of the head flying. When this happens, your cervical vertebrae may shift out of the position, sometimes to the extent that the curve of your neck is visible altered. The joints that articulate these vertebrae lose their alignment and suffer strain. At the same time, cervical discs may slip out of their normal position, possibly herniating in the process. This causes them to press against the nerve roots of the cervical spine. In the meantime, the muscles and connective tissues of the neck may stretch or tear.

As you might expect, these various forms of damage can create a multitude of symptoms. Whiplash is characterized by:

  • Neck immobility
  • Neck, shoulder, and/or jaw pain
  • Cervical radiculopathy (neurological symptoms in the hands or arms)
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Memory, sleep, or concentration issues
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Mood imbalances

Non-Invasive Whiplash Treatment Options

If your whiplash symptoms are severe, you're almost certainly going to seek immediate medical assistance. But it may be tempting for people with mild symptoms to put of evaluation and treatment in the hopes that the condition will resolve itself. This is not a wise move. Dislocated joints, discs, and vertebrae aren't likely to reposition themselves, at least not correctly. The long-term result may be severe chronic pain, stiffness, and neurological symptoms related to nerve compression. Getting the whiplash treatment you need, when you need it, is always the right strategy -- and Hildebrand Chiropractic can provide that treatment.

Our San Antonio chiropractor, Dr. Coe, performs careful cervical spinal evaluations, including X-ray imaging, to get a clear picture of any vertebral or neurological issues causing your whiplash symptoms. Cervical chiropractic adjustments can restore the normal curvature of the neck, relieve joint strain, and permit the cervical spine to function normally again. Non-surgical spinal decompression can guide herniated discs back into the usual position so they're no longer pinching nerve tissue. Corrective exercises can then rehabilitate damaged muscles and connective tissues until your neck can move without pain.
