What Is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is the tearing of fascia, a thick tissue that stretches from your heel to your toes. The arch and muscles of the foot are supported by the fascia. Heel spurs used to be to blame for chronic pain felt on the bottom of the foot. Doctors now think heel spurs are caused by plantar fasciitis.

Causes of Plantar Fasciitis

There are several causes of plantar fasciitis. Causes include wearing high heeled shoes often, having an unusual foot position or gait, wearing worn shoes with soles that are thin, having tight Achilles tendons, or having either an extremely high arch or flat feet. Women are more likely to have plantar fasciitis than men. This condition is also more likely to develop as you age, if you are overweight, and you are on your feet frequently throughout the day.

Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis

There are just a few symptoms of plantar fasciitis. These symptoms are pain at the bottom of your foot, usually in the center or front of your heel bone. This pain can be felt when you first wake up in the morning with the first steps you take, as well as after sitting or standing for a long time. If you exercise, you will feel pain from plantar fasciitis right after.

Treatment for Plantar Fasciitis

Treatment varies from patient to patient. Make an appointment to get your feet examined by our chiropractic team so that we can properly diagnose and treat your plantar fasciitis. You can fill out our new patient form at our office on your first visit, or print and fill out the form from the comfort and convenience of your home. Make sure to bring your medical and family health history so that we can better understand and treat your plantar fasciitis.

Once a diagnosis is made, we can start treating you. Treatment for plantar fasciitis may include chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, exercises, or a combination of all three to get your feet back to feeling better again. Chiropractic treatments use gentle manipulation techniques to help joints move the way they should. Massage therapy and exercises can also strengthen and reduce pain from plantar fasciitis.
