Texting and Back Pain Minneapolis MN

Is Technology becoming a Pain?

Imagine spending a day in the downtown area or at a mall in Minneapolis, MN. Think about how many people are walking with their cell phones out and their head facing down towards a mobile device. Whether it is texting, browsing the web or tweeting, many Americans are engulfed in their phones on a daily basis. Our bodies were intended to stand upright for the majority of the day. Now with this attachment to modern technology, our bodies are spending nearly 2 to 4 hours each day with our neck bent and head slumped forward. This extra pressure on your spine may be the reason you are experiencing back pain, or will at some point in the future.

A recent British study found almost half of 16-24 year-olds reported aches in the neck and pains in the back - a rise of 60 percent since the previous year.  Nokomis Chiropractic & Wellness can help you better manage your pain and help your children as well.  We provide resources to keep this pain from leaving a lifelong detrimental effect.  Some easy things everyone can do are: Move! Get  up, Roll your shoulders any movement  will help keep the body limber.

Results of a Unique Study

Dr. Kenneth Hansraj studied how texting was affecting the spine and found that “While it is nearly impossible to avoid the technologies that cause these issues, individuals should make an effort to look at their phones with a neutral spine and to avoid spending hours each day hunched over.” Poor posture has been known to cause back pain, and texting is just a new way that people are becoming slouched over. Poor posture is also linked to mood, confidence and depression. This study is not saying that you should stop texting, however you should work on looking at your phone with your head up straight so that you do not apply added pressure to your spine.
