Running Injury Pain Relief Chiropractic Treatments

Many fitness centers market low impact activities these days, the reason for this is simple. Running: what was once thought to be a simple exercise has been found to be very impactful on the body. This, along with the fact that many people are running on concrete or asphalt just adds to the impact the body endures, which means that more injuries are found to be a result of running. Chiropractic care can help relieve the injuries that are sustained from running so you can get back to this simple activity that you may love, or in many cases, are required to do for your chosen sport. Whether you are looking to recover from a recent injury or one that occurred years ago and you want to get back in the game, or you just want to decrease the chance that you get injured, chiropractic treatment can help you. Some of the common areas of the body that we treat for running injuries include:

  • Feet
  • Ankles
  • Knees
  • Hips
  • Back

With regards to these body parts, there are many common running injuries that we treat with chiropractic. Regardless of whether these injuries come about from running a route in football, rounding second base on a hard liner to the gap, completing Grandma’s Marathon, or from your own exercise routine such as an early morning run before work, we can help relieve your pain so that you can get back out there, doing whatever it is you love.

Plantar Fasciitis Pain Relief

Plantar Fasciitis, or other foot pain, can be treated and often relieved through chiropractic work. Plantar Fasciitis is a common running injury, but can also occur if someone has not had a lot of movement in weeks or months, and can also be a result of improper footwear. Some people describe the pain as dull and annoying, while others report sharp, intense pains. It can occur early in the morning when getting out of bed and get better after taking a few steps, and it can feel fine in the morning and grow more painful as the day goes on. Lastly, it can present itself as pain in the heel, or pain in the balls of the foot, but not often both. As you can see, there are many ways that Plantar Fasciitis can affect a person, but what is similar is the fact that there are small tears in the fascia, and this is what causes the problem. You may hear the problem referred to as “heel spurs” on occasion, but this is commonly a result of the pain radiating from the heel of the affected person.

Chiropractic treatments can help relieve the symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis, allowing people to walk and run again. Our techniques include working the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and the joints of the ankle and foot. Calves often tighten up from Plantar Fasciitis. And the foot should bend naturally in the middle, but when Plantar Fasciitis occurs, the pain and tension can lock up the foot so that it doesn’t bend. We use both chiropractic and massage to lessen the pain of Plantar Fasciitis.

We work with The Orthotic Group and can prescribe custom-made orthotics or shoes that incorporate your foot form and function along with the hip placement and mechanics of movement. Not only will this help with the current pain, but will ensure there is less chance you will get it again.

Shin Splint Relief

Shin splints are a common injury for someone starting a new athletic or aerobics routine. Whether you are a seasoned athlete or someone who just wants to stay, or get into shape, if you have a started a new running program, shin splints are a possibility. The pain is often described as dull to intense, focusing on the sides of the lower leg. Chiropractic treatments can help to relieve this pain and allow you to continue your new routine.

Achilles Tendonitis

The Achilles tendon can become inflamed at the beginning of a run or walk, and cause anywhere from a dull pain to sharp and debilitating. Routine chiropractic care can help ensure that your tendon is loose and ready for whenever you are ready to get moving.

Runner Knee Pain

This pain is often under the knee cap and can result from the constant impact your knees feel when your feet hit the pavement. Stairs may aggravate this pain. Fortunately, chiropractic treatments can help relieve or eliminate this pain.

Iliotibial Band Syndrome

The impetus for this pain comes from the ligament that connects from the pelvic bone to the shinbone. The ligament becomes tight and rubs against the thighbone, causing hip pain ranging from dull to extremely sharp. Chiropractic care can help loosen this ligament and relieve the pain.

Running Injury Chiropractic Treatments

Running injuries can involve your hip or knee, feet or ankles, back, spine, or a combination of all of these. The body is interconnected, and this is one of the primary tenets which chiropractic focuses on. No matter if you have a stress fracture in your foot or back pain from the impact on the pavement radiating up your legs and hips, we can help you get moving again. A combination of chiropractic, massage, and examining your footwear and assessing the need for custom-made orthotic shoes or inserts is our approach.
