In the old days, if you wanted a pair of custom orthotics you stepped into a mold and a pair was made to complement the shape of your foot. This was a big help to many people. With today’s technology, we are able to electronically scan your feet as you stand to determine the pressure points, and then scan each foot as you walk to determine how the biomechanics of your foot support you in action. The layers of data collected during this process along with the doctors training and knowledge of your body structure will allow for the best custom fit. The orthotics are then molded from a variety of materials for the type of use you desire.
Gone are the days of one size (or shape) fits all. That isn’t to say that you can’t be perfectly happy with one pair of general use orthotics. There are options to have: dress, sport, running, diabetic, and many of life’s other activities supported with custom inserts made of specialized materials.
