Q: What does it feel like?
While I don’t have tattoos I can say with confidence based upon feedback from many tattooed patients- it does not feel like getting a tattoo. Some patients say it feels like a pinch or a mosquito bite, others don’t feel them at all, some describe it as a release combined with sensations such as tingling or a “zinging sensation”. One thing all of my patients agree on is that it’s strangely deeply relaxing.
Q: Is acupuncture religious?
Although acupuncture does have origins in Taoism - an Earth-based spirituality that draws analogies to common elements such as wind, fire, and water, there is absolutely zero promotion of this history in the clinical setting. Acupuncture may be utilized by anyone, regardless of spiritual beliefs, without worry of conflict with one’s own personal beliefs.
Q: Is there medications on the needles?
No. While a couple of acupuncture brands have a very thin silicone coating on them, all other needles - including the ones used at The Wellness Center - are simply and eloquently made from pure surgical grade stainless steel.
Q: Are the needles reused? What are they made of?
Acupuncture needles are made out of surgical grade stainless steel. They are disposable and are made for one-time use only. After use, they are discarded as “medical waste”.
Q: Are there side effects?
There are little to no side effects from acupuncture. At times, like with a deep tissue massage, there may be very temporary soreness in the muscle, but this is rare but is also a sign that your body is healing. One of the most beautiful aspects of this medicine is that the “side effects” often include an increased sense of well-being, better sleep and an increased ability to handle stressors to the body.
