numbness and tingling in the hands or feet

Chiropractic Treatments for Numbness and Tingling in the Hands and Feet

Numbness and tingling often occur in the hands and feet when we sleep, or sit or stand in one position too long. It affects our fingers and toes too. The causes are nerve damage, herniated disk, diabetes, plaque buildup, and many other medical conditions. At the Wellness Center in Portland and Beaverton, we have several chiropractic treatments that can treat this numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. We have chiropractic care, acupuncture, regenerative medicine, PRP, physical therapy, and massage to treat pain in the arms and legs. Our treatment plan will be customized to each individual patient.

Treatments for Numbness and Tingling

We will take a complete medical history and often perform blood and imaging test to find the cause of your numbness and tingling. When surgery or drug treatment is needed we will refer the patient to a doctor. Chiropractic care is often used with manual touch, adjustments, and pain relief. This treatment is safe and relieves pain and often is combined with other therapies in the office.

Regenerative Medicine at our clinic offers Platelet Rich Plasma as the primary treatment to reduce pain. The doctor draws blood from the patient and spins it in a centrifuge to separate the platelets that promote growth and healing. The platelets are injected into the area that needs to be healed. These injections reduce pain and promote healing in the hands and feet. Tests will be performed to determine if this treatment is appropriate.

We offer several types of massage that can be used with other therapies. Massage relaxes muscles and promotes blood flow. Deep tissue massage uses firm strokes to relieve pain in the tissue. It will lower blood pressure and promote natural pain killers in the body to work. We have a Swedish massage, a light soothing massage found in spas, and sports massage for athletes. We will determine what type is best to treat the numbness and tingling. Massage also increases the range of motions in your joints.

Acupuncture may be an option if the tingling and numbness in the arms, legs, hands, and feet becomes chronic. We can insert stainless steel needles in trigger points to reduce the pain and stimulate the nearby cells. Each session is about 20-30 minutes but can be longer depending on your needs. Sometimes heat or electrical stimulation is used to enhance results. After the needles are removed, the insertion points are cleansed with alcohol. Physical therapy is often included with special exercises and stretches that can be performed at home.

When you make an appointment, our chiropractor will take a complete medical history to learn about your condition. A physical exam, X-rays, and blood tests will be performed to make an accurate diagnosis. After that, the chiropractor will design a treatment program to treat the numbness and tingling in the arms, legs, hands, and feet. Often a combination of therapies is recommended.

Reviews From our Satisfied Patients

  • "I had a really attentive chiropractor who made sure that I was comfortable and heard about all of the offered services that would help me with my back problems. I came away feeling confident that the doc would help any way they can, and that's always cool. Definitely recommend."
    James Wells
  • "I was very impressed with the whole crew at Wellness Center PDX! Professional and compassionate, from the front desk to the clinicians. They talked me through procedures to ensure that I understood what was happening and what they needed to accomplish. Some temporary facilities issues (the A/C was scheduled for repairs, as it had not been operated since the previous autumn, and had been found to be out of repair) marred the visit, but staff had worked to mitigate the impact. Definitely worth a second visit. I'm glad I went."

  • "Everyone here is so nice! From Catina and Patricia at the front to Dr Gabriel, Nicole, and Daniel, everyone is so amazing! They are dedicated and patient with their explanations and treatments. Love my visits"
