Sports Performance

Many amateur and professional athletes sit on the sidelines due to injuries that could have been avoided. Some of these injuries linger longer than necessary because they do not respond to rest or medical treatments. Additionally, many athletes play less efficiently because their structural system is not balanced. We know that taking painkillers is not always necessary, and often dangerous; such drugs merely mask the symptoms if taken long-term following an injury, ultimately deceiving the athlete into a false sense of wellness that could actually make his or her physical injury more serious.

At All About Wellness, Chiropractor Dr. Anthony Neary uses an approach to structural health that closely relates to the specific needs of the sports participant, including Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Diegho Lima. Nearly all sports involve intentional or unintentional body contact, fast starts and stops, and/or body positioning that places an unusual amount of strain on the spinal structure. We give special attention to the spine, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. Chiropractic care is a natural health care method that stresses the importance of keeping all the systems of the body functioning efficiently, so the player enjoys peak performance, a minimum injury risk, and fast recuperative powers. Many world-class and Olympic athletes, as well as professional stars and teams, have retained sports chiropractors like Dr. Neary to provide care.

Dr. Neary has extensive experience and great success in treating professional and amateur athletes of all ages, including active tennis players, triathletes and several MMA athletes living in or near Alpharetta. The Players Association of the NFL has officially incorporated sports chiropractors as a regular part of medical care. Chiropractors have been selected as attending doctors at the Olympic Games and at national and world championships in track and field, cycling, volleyball, power lifting, aerobics, and triathlons. Many of the greatest athletes in the world are adjusted before competition as a "tune-up," in an effort to place their bodies in a state of peak efficiency; following competition, many athletes are adjusted again, to enhance the recuperative process after the stress of competing. When asked during an interview about Chiropractic's effectiveness, NFL running back Roger Craig, formerly of the San Francisco 49ers, said, "We won four Super Bowls in the 1980's with it, so it must be doing something right!"

Areas of the Body That Can Be Treated

At our Chiropractic clinic, Dr. Neary can adjust those areas of the spine or surrounding joints that are slightly displaced and fail to function normally. Given by hand, the adjustment will restore proper alignment and function to the spinal joints, reconnecting the normal nerve transmissions and increasing optimum function to the athlete. Therapeutic exercise, massage, and nutritional support can be important components an athlete's care. Injuries like sprains, pulled muscles, tendinitis, shoulder pain and joint problems can all be treated effectively with chiropractic care. Even better, chiropractic provides not only drug-free and surgery-free health care, but also preventative and performance-enhancing care.
