Dr. David Dow
Your Madison Chiropractor

I was in a traumatic car accident in 1997 and saw Dr. Dow during my recovery. He treated me with gentle acupunture, massage, and chiropractic adjustments. When I first started seeing him, my pain was terrible... I couldn't move my head very far in any direction without discomfort, had numbness and tingling in my elbow and hand, and frankly feared that the rest of my life would be impacted. At only 25 yrs old that thought was really daunting! Thankfully, with his help, I've recovered significantly. I still see Dr. Dow often for preventive care and his excellent holistic approach to health. For example, he recently introduced me to the Pettibon System for improving my posture and balance. I practice this at his office and at home with simple tools. I've noticed my neck mobility has increased even more, I suffer from fewer headaches, and my running gait is more balanced which means I feel a lot less pain while exercising. Thankfully, due to what I think is outstanding, exceptional care of Dr. Dow, I'm doing things today like training for my second marathon, driving motorcycles all summer long, and playing heartily with my 9yr old son. I owe a great deal of gratitude to Dr. Dow for his health care, healthy living tips, and friendship. I would recommend his services to anyone!

I've had an incredible experience with Dow Chiropractic & Acupuncture. From the beginning when Dr. Dow does your exam, you get a clear impression that not only does he know what he's doing but that he's really energized and invested in his work and committed to helping you feel your best. I was in a car accident a year or so ago and have had significant neck pain since then - Dr. Dow specializes in motor vehicle trauma and has taken it upon himself to work with the insurance companies to make sure I get the care I need without me having to hassle them about it. Also, unlike many chiropractors where you just go in and get cracked a couple times in an assembly line and then sent on your way, Dr. Dow shows you some individual exercises to do depending on your needs that you do to warm up before going in to be straightened out by him. It's an overall commitment to long-term wellness that I really value. Thanks, Dr. Dow.

Dr Dow is great! He is very helpful and knowledgeable about how to fix your body. I had a multitude of problems – pain, flexibility, balance etc. and in just two months seeing Dr Dow I am tremendously better in all areas. My friends even comment on how much better I look and that I even sound like my “old self”. In addition he is easy to work with regarding appointments and payments. I would enthusiastically recommend Dr Dow to anyone who has any pain, balance problems or other chiropractic needs.

The problem for which I sought Dr. Dow's help began in early spring, about 6-7 months ago. I began to notice that my sense of taste (flavor of food) seemed less than normal.... I could smell things, but the flavor was somewhat diminished.

At first, I attributed it to possible sinus problems and allergies, which I've had some trouble with from time to time. I was checked out by my doctor, and she found no real sinus infection or such going on.

I didn't give it too much thought until sometime in later May, when I suddenly completely lost my sense of taste. I could detect salty, sour, sweet and bitter, but the flavor of what I was eating was nonexistent. At lunchtime one day I could taste...and at the next meal it was completely gone. This loss of taste went on for several days, and gradually came back, but only faintly.

It was sometime in early June when I lost my sense of taste completely...I could still detect odors and fragrances, but they were somewhat diminished. This loss of taste lasted for 4 months...4 months of totally not being able to taste what I was eating. I think that we take our ability to taste and smell for granted, but when it leaves, life loses its interest and luster. Imagine eating your favorite foods and not being able to tell what you were eating (except by appearance or texture). For instance, when I shared a pizza with my husband, I joked that he might just as well have ordered a carryout box and divided it into pieces, because that's as much flavor as the pizza had for me. Every time I'd sit down to a meal, I was hoping that my taste would return as suddenly as it had disappeared. Cooking and preparing a meal became difficult, because much of cooking depends on tasting and smelling...and then, even when I had worked at preparing a good meal, it felt pointless to me, because none of it had any flavor whatsoever!

In August, on the prompting of my doctor, I had a sinus CT scan which turned up negative. I saw an ENT doctor, who did an exam and found nothing wrong, except that my Vit. B-12 level was a little low. He gave me a B-12 injection and had me follow up with him in two weeks...all to no avail. The B-12 did nothing to bring back my ability to taste. On my own, I even stopped my blood pressure medication (Benazapril), thinking that perhaps that might be the cause. Again, after nearly two weeks, I saw no improvement.

I went to my local chiropractor in late August to see if an adjustment might make a difference. A day or so after the adjustment, I lost my sense of smell also. So now, here I was...unable to taste or smell. I was starting to become somewhat depressed at this point. Since I work as a nurse in a medical clinic, I sought the advice of another of our local family doctors...and her advice to me was to seek acupuncture.

It was at this point in early September that I made my appointment with Dr. Dow. On Sept. 12, he did a thorough evaluation and medical history, and at that same appointment, I had my first acupuncture treatment...hoping for a reversal of my problems.

It was 1 1/2 days later that I was having a bedtime snack while working on my computer. I remember putting whatever it was that I was eating in my mouth and suddenly realizing that I could taste it! I was so excited about being able to taste that I was afraid to go to bed, fearing that when I woke up in the morning that it would again be gone. When I awoke, I wasn't able to taste or smell anything, but after I had been up for a short while, my taste and smell slowly returned. For the next few mornings, my taste and smell were diminished when I first arose, but gradually intensified the longer I was up and about. Since that time, I have been totally able to taste and smell. I did have another acupuncture treatment two weeks later, and have continued to enjoy the wonderful world of taste and smell.

Most people take their sense of taste and smell for granted, but I'm one person who will always appreciate this wonderful gift which God gave us. I felt like a new person...like I had had a rebirth. I know that it may sound silly, but until you have been without the enjoyment of smells and delicious tastes, you might never realize just how wonderful it really is.

My sincere thanks to Dr. Dow for taking the time to really listen to my problem. I have read the explanation for how acupuncture works in the body, but the entire process still remains absolutely awesome and amazing to me. When I shared my experience with friends and co-workers, I could only describe it as a "minor miracle!" It has truly given me a new lease on life!

After six visits over a period of weeks, my left ankle feels much better-

12 years ago as a teenager, a friend crashed his car into a cement bridge. My ankle swelled, and sprained. Having no money to fix it,

I let it heal naturally - as I didn't think it was that bad. Now I work on my feet 10+ hours a day- the bone sticks out - and my pain was constant

and at times unbearable. Now I am excited to say that my ankle is feeling so much better and for the first time in years I noticed I was holding

my weight with the injured ankle and felt no pain! The bone is still sticking out - and healed this way - but I can focus on other things in my life,

than just my ankle!

  • "I was very impressed with the chiropractic care I received from Dr. Anderson. I had received chiropractic in the past for my neck pain, but not to this level of care. After only a few sessions, my symptoms began to disappear, especially my neck pain, and I know I would not have been able to perform to my everyday work functions without the treatment I received."
  • "I have benefitted tremendously from the chiropractic care I received from Dr. Anderson. Not only has the adjustments helped alleviate my stiffness and aches, but it has helped me have more energy and just feel more balanced over all. A few months ago, I was able to resume a favorite hobby of mine: golf. Due to my previous pain, I never thought that’d be possible."
