I'll Save You A Seat

"I'll Save You A Seat"

Hello, my friends.

Every Monday evening at 6:00, I hold a little class in my office. It's for new patients, current patients, former patients, spouses, friends, distant cousins, casual acquaintances… I'd even grab a "n'er-do-well" or two off the street, if I could get ahold of them by the scruff of the neck - that's how strongly I feel about the materiel.

The topics of our discussion are simple, yet profound. The principles are universal, though largely ignored in our society. The ramifications of their understanding and acceptance by the majority could hardly be exaggerated.

I've often said that the reason I chose my profession was the fact that its philosophy resonated so strongly within my own heart, like nothing I had seen or heard before. The basic tenets of that philosophy, simply stated, go something like this:

Universal and Innate Intelligence

There is an intelligence within all things, both living and non-living.That intelligence organizes and shapes each of us, along with everyone and every thing around us.We are an expression of the source from which all the world is born, regardless of how we choose to understand it, and that source is perfect.

Within every one of us lies a part of that universal intelligence, and it, too, is perfect.Full and normal expression of that innate intelligence is the cause of life and health.Disturbances or interference to that expression result in disorder, disorganization… and disease.Removal of those disturbances, correction of that interference, restores order, organization, and health.

Vertebral Subluxation

There are many ways to distort or disrupt our God-given potential for perfection, and mankind's pain and suffering is often simply the predictable result of poor choices in the exercise of our free will.Of course, there's also the problem of "limitations of matter" - there are boundaries within which we must operate in this physical world. On the other hand, the limits we place on ourselves, more often than not, are unrealistically low, and our capacity to heal is vastly greater than we have yet begun to realize.

Aside from those exceptions listed above, the primary source of interference to the achievement of good health and the full expression of our potential in life is, according to my professional philosophy, something called the "vertebral subluxation," and this is where those outside the profession have difficulty. The concept seems too simple, and the importance attributed to it, too broad to be accurate or correct.

A vertebral subluxation is a loss of normal motion or position of spinal structures, which interferes with normal flow of energy and information to every organ, tissue and cell. This occurs because of the close and intricate anatomical relationship between the spine and the nervous system (the "master system" of the body), and the extreme sensitivity of that system to any form of mechanical pressure. The result is disruption of the connection between our "innate intelligence" and the physical matter within which it is attempting to function - our human body. The inevitable outcome, as we said before, is disorganization, disorder, and disease.

Restoring Wholeness

I've just started reading a book entitled, The Secret History of Chiropractic:D.D. Palmer's Spiritual Writings, by Simon A. Senzon.Palmer founded the chiropractic profession near the end of the 19th century.I'm not very far into the book yet, but one fact is already clear:he saw no reason to separate man into spiritual, mental, emotional and physical elements. He recognized that those "parts of the whole" are, in truth, so interconnected and interdependent as to be indivisible in any system of healing, and he realized that his new profession had the potential to restore wholeness and harmony within sick people in many more ways than one.

A careful study of Palmer's writings leaves one in awe of the power of his intellect and the logic of his conclusions.Modern research and articles in the popular press everywhere testify to the accuracy of his assertions. We read about mind/body medicine, psychoneuroimmunology, the "laying on of hands" and "the power of prayer."We're told that stress causes physical disease, and that physical problems can cause mental illness.A whole man is obviously much more than the sum of his parts.

You Never Know

B.J. Palmer, the son of our founder and the man generally thought to be responsible for the worldwide spread of the chiropractic profession and philosophy, left us the following words of wisdom:

"You never know how far-reaching something you may think, say or do today will affect the lives of millions tomorrow."

So, I guess I'll keep holding my little class.Maybe it'll make a difference.I'll save you a seat.

Wishing you health, happiness and peace,

Dr. Frank Bowling
