Why Massage at The Chan Institute?

Therapeutic massage is an essential component of The Chan Institute's care. Our licensed massage therapists produce rapid, positive results by using a range of integrated therapies tailored to you specific needs. This approach may include one or more types of therapy. Regardless of whether you're looking to heal from an injury or relax and de-stress The Chan Institute's massage is vital to your complete health and wellness.

Types of Massage Offered

Swedish Massage

This is a relaxing, unwinding, don't talk to me massage. This style utilizes long, flowing strokes, often but not necessarily in the direction of the heart. Swedish massage is designed to increase circulation and blood flow. Oil, cream, or lotion is applied on the skin to reduce friction and allow smooth strokes.

Orthopedic Massage

A precise form of medical massage, orthopedic massage begins with resisted, passive, and active assessment tests followed by deep "fractioning" of specific tendons, muscles, and ligaments, especially those of the shoulder, elbow, hand, and knee. Deep fractioning helps break down scar tissue by separating ligament-to bone adhesions, increase blood supply, and expedite the healing process.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a form of bodywork that relieves pain and impairment due to shortened muscle tissue. With focused, deep, slow strokes, deep tissue massage lengthens muscle fibers, corrects structural imbalances, and increases range of motion.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point formations are damaged muscle, tendon, or ligament fibers caused by stress or trauma and are associated with pain and inflammation. Trigger point therapy involves identifying the location of the formations and applying sustained pressure on them, promoting healing and alleviating pain by stimulating, stretching, and improving circulation to affected areas.

Structural Muscular Balancing

A gentle and effective technique that releases chronic contraction in the muscles. The nervous system is triggered to release contractions through compression applied to muscles placed in a shortened position

What you can expect

The massage we offer at The Chan Institute is geared specifically to the improvement of chronic pain injuries, reduced range of motion, inflammation, muscle strains and spasms, and poor circulation.
