Important COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Prevention Message!

We understand that members of our Fairfax Chiropractic & Physical Therapy family are experiencing concerns regarding the COVID-19 (Coronavirus). We want to assure you we are watching the situation closely and ask that if you are sick or have been exposed to protect others and please follow the CDC guidelines by staying at home.

We will be continuing with our normal hours at this time because chiropractic is incredibly beneficial for boosting the immune system, and we want to help our patients prevent acquiring the virus themselves. Because we will remain open, we are taking extra precautions regarding sterilizing our office to protect our patients. Please continue to check this page for any updates regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Here are some other science-backed ways to help you and your family prevent coronavirus and other illnesses!

Wash your hands. Hand-washing is the number one defense to protect yourself from germs, and should be done regularly and repeatedly. Use warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds. Make sure to wash your hands before meals (and during if you are touching raw meat and eggs), after using the bathroom, and after touching germ-covered public items such as after doorknobs, or public touchscreens,  Make sure not to touch your face after touching germ-covered items, because that can expose you to germs as well! One last thing, don’t forget to sanitize your cell phone with rubbing alcohol!

Drink plenty of fluids. Fluids are not only part of the prevention, but also part of the cure! It’s no wonder that when you are sick the first thing a doctor will prescribe you is “rest and fluids”. Keeping your fluid intake up will flush toxins from your body, and make sure you are keeping your body well hydrated! Plus, it will ensure that you visit the bathroom and wash your hands more frequently! Just make sure you are using a fresh cup or washing your bottle regularly!

See your chiropractor. The best way to protect your immune system is to never let it get weak in the first place! Regular chiropractic adjustments can impact the way your nervous system operates, allowing it to communicate freely with your entire body. By removing spinal dysfunctions, chiropractic care allows your body to operate at its most optimal, and lets you focus on more important things.

Eat Healthy. Things feel out of our control right now and it may be tempting to snuggle up with some chocolatey snacks, but it is very important to keep your stomach healthy consistently! Adding sugars can throw off the balance of the bacterias in your stomach, and keeping an eye on how much Vitamin A, C, and E you’re getting will help keep your immune system strong! While we know it can be hard if you’re under quarantine, keeping your diet full of lean protein, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats will protect the good bacteria in your stomach microbiome. This will not only keep your stomach healthy but also help keep you healthy too!

Stay Active. Now is not the time to go to the gym, but if you’re able to walk around the block without bumping into another person, take a stroll and get some sunshine. Open the window or the curtains and do some yoga in the sun. This way you’re able to get Vitamin D and also exercise at the same time! Making sure you get exercise, fresh air, and sunshine is an important way to ensure your body maintains peak health and may help to flush bad bacteria out of your lungs and airways!

Maintain a work from home routine. Right now everyone’s schedules are changing, and everyone is learning what working from home looks like! Our advice for you is that if you are just learning how to work from home, maintain a routine. That includes putting on clothes, making your bed and breakfast, brushing your teeth, and moving to a specific part of your home every morning, taking time for lunch, and ending your day every evening. Maintaining this routine will help you stay on track and maintain a regular pattern, rather than to sleep too much or watch too many re-runs!

Sleep Well. Sleep is something that is incredibly important to get for the purposes of your immune system! You need a minimum of seven to eight hours of sleep each night for your body to rest and rejuvenate. Without sleep, your body cannot fight off any incoming infections or de-stress. Sleep is necessary for wellness, so maintaining good sleep is important. If you are having trouble sleeping, first look at your surroundings, then your bedtime routine. Your room should be cool, dark, and quiet and your electronics should be turned off at least one hour before bed. Give your brain enough time to relax and stop thinking about pandemic-related news.

We consider you part of our family and want you to stay safe. Please continue to wash your hands, drink plenty of water, eat right, sleep well, and maintain your chiropractic appointments for optimal immune system protection!

Stay well, and schedule your appointment today!
