Let's Keep Your Heart B.E.A.T.-ing!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Today is a day all about hearts and love, and so we want to tell you how to love your heart! Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States, so it is vital that the heart is taken care of. So together, let’s B.E.A.T. heart disease!

Breathe:

- Stress puts a huge burden on the heart and the body. Make sure you’re taking time to destress, and start by breathing properly! Start by breathing through your nose, letting the air fill your abdomen and then your lungs, and then breathe out. If you’re very stressed, some deep breaths with holding the air in your lungs for two seconds before releasing the breath can help calm you down!

Eat:

-Make small changes to your diet to increase your heart health. Swap your refined flour for whole grains. Add an extra vegetable or two per day to your diet. Swap your bacon and steak for eggs and chicken. Limit your salt intake to keep your blood pressure low, and kick that soda habit! Weight gain can lead to an increased risk of heart disease.

Activity:

- Let’s get physical! 30 minutes of cardio activity per day can help lower blood pressure, keep weight off, and lower cholesterol! It even helps your lungs get stronger! All ways that make your heart healthier.

Treat:

-Make sure you’re getting treating your body with love! Kick the smoking habit, and learn the way your body feels so you can identify symptoms of heart disease before it’s too late. Don’t skip those yearly physicals, and make sure to talk with your physicians about your health history! Seeing a chiropractor can help you get in touch with your body, and keep your heart healthy by lowering blood pressure, inflammation, and improving lung function, heart rate variability, and nerve function!

It’s never too late to show your heart some love! Keep on B.E.A.T.-ing!
