Chronic Pain and Chiropractic: Encouraging Compassionate Care

Let’s face it, when you’re in a great deal of pain, it’s hard to think about anything else and we are often tempted to reach for our medicine cabinet to “quiet the noise” we’re feeling inside. Many American live with chronic pains, day in and day out and are searching for a way to quiet the noise. But just like a crying infant, that noise is telling us something. Its telling us something is wrong, and we need to do something about. You wouldn’t shut the door on a crying baby right? Yet we often ignore the pain signals, and numb the feelings that are there telling us something is wrong.

Pain, and even chronic pain is a symptom of something gone wrong in the body. It’s like the oil light in your car, and it must be investigated to find the underlying cause. That’s the goal of your Chiropractor, to seek and find the cause of these pains. Pain is like an electrical signal, stemming from tissues and damaged cells in the body, transmitting that cry for help to our brains for interpretation. Your Chiropractor has extensive training on finding the cause of your pain.

                Message from Dr. Ben:

“Every patient is unique, and though many signs and symptoms are similar, it is important for me to analyze all aspects of a person’s physical health to know the cause of their pain. I need to do a thorough exam of their nervous system to know what is irritating the nerves, sending these pain signals. I need to perform orthopedic tests to know how it’s affecting a person’s movements, muscle strength, gait, and body mechanics. I also often assess my patient’s diet because, depending on what we put in it, we can cause excessive inflammation and pain due to metabolic and chemical stress. Once I know the cause, I can effectively create a plan to resolve the real problem. My patient’s health is my number one concern, and although real healing takes time and effort, I strive to help them through their journey, and reach an optimal state of wellness.”

Chiropractic has been shown to improve chronic back and neck pain (1), severe headaches and migraines (2). But did you know that it’s not just about pain. That’s really scratching just the surface. The goal of Chiropractic is to take pressure off of our nerves, so our body’s vital systems can run more efficiently. Chiropractic is proving left and right that it can help our whole health, and prevent disease. A recent study of the NON-musculoskeletal conditions Chiropractic has successfully helped includes asthma, types of vertigo, infantile colic, ear-infections, and elderly patients with pneumonia (3). As research grows, we are seeing evidence of what many patients have known all along. Take care of our nervous system, and our body does the rest. Chiropractic is about optimizing our lives through optimizing our nervous system. Whether your experiencing chronic pain, or looking for a way to be at your best, the Chiropractic & Physical therapy center is waiting for you.
