Chiropractic and Children: A Winning Combination!

The sun is shining, school is out, and kids will be kids! Chiropractic & Physical Therapy Center knows how important being active is for children, and we want to make sure you know how chiropractic can help your kids get the most out of their childhood and their summers! We sat down with our own Dr.Ben to talk about why chiropractic is important for the youngest members of our Chiropractic & Physical Therapy Family.

Why is chiropractic care most important for children?

A lot of people think chiropractic is about the bones and trying to move bones, but it’s really about keeping the nervous system healthy. The bones in your spine protect the vital areas of the nervous system, and moving those bones helps to take the pressure off the vital nerves, helping the body to function better. A child has a developing nervous system and any stress on the nervous system can cause symptoms in the organs, muscles, and joints. In a developing child it is vital to make sure that the body is functioning at 100% so that it is able to heal at 100% and grow at 100%. The stress on the nerves can slow those process, so fixing that stress can really help a child grow strong.

Okay, but is it more important for kids than it is for adults?

It’s important in all ages, but I see children get the most amazing changes and results. With adults, especially if they’ve never had chiropractic before, they have years of stress and tension in their body. Children don’t have that and they respond so amazingly to care. They function better and, if they have any issues that do involve symptoms (like constipation, ear infections, headaches, etc.), when you light up that nerve system and the body functions at 100%, symptoms start to just dissipate.

If I’m taking my child to regular pediatric visits, do I still need to take them to a chiropractor?

Chiropractors and Pediatricians look at different things. Pediatricians look at how healthy organs are by looking directly at the organs. Often times you take labs to look at chemicals in the body and all the areas that tell you the organs are healthy. All of those areas are controlled by one vital organ that never really gets checked, and that’s the brain. Think of it like this: You have a tv, and you’re looking at the tv. It’s not turning on even though you’re pushing all the buttons and flipping all the switches, but did you even check if it was plugged in? In chiropractic we’re not trying to fix the body or control it, we’re trying to help the body be better at doing it’s own job. By allowing the pressure to stay off these spinal joints as opposed to focusing specifically on the organs, chiropractic works synergistically with pediatric care.
