Nutrition

At Midwest Functional Medicine we will tailor your specific nutritional needs to you. These recommendations are made after diagnostic testing including food allergies, assessment of biochemical pathways, genetic testing and gastrointestinal assessment. The following information is general in nature and may not apply to your specific needs.

Your path to health in general involves the 4 R's. Remove Replace Repair and Restore. This section will focus on replace.

Good nutrition is key into letting our bodies have optimal health to function properly. In a nutshell (pun intended) you should eat food that is or was alive:

Vegetables: especially cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, kale, spinach and cabbage.) These contain a chemical called glycosinolates which turn on genes that control detoxification. They also contain indole 3, carbinol and sulforaphane which help to heal the intestinal lining and help to detoxification. They decrease your chances of getting cancer and controls estrogen levels.

Fruits:

Meat: organic, grass fed, free range

We have created a Nutrition section for you to get a better look and understanding of healthy choices with nutrition. Information from this section has been provided by the knowledge of Dr. Hermann and also from Authority Nutrition. Authority Nutrition is an evidence-based approach with scientific information.

This video here is a great watch of the stand up comedian Tom Naughton with a hilarious lecture on bad science

We have simply added articles that we felt had good information to help our patients with a better understanding of nutrition. Information from Authority Nutrition is hyper linked to their article page with their credited work and sources.

Don't forget to check out with Video section here in the Nutrition tab for a day at the grocery store with Dr. Hermann and more.
