Regenerative Medicine: Enhanced Healing from Your Stem Cells

As any honest doctor will freely admit, medical practitioners do not actually heal anything -- we merely facilitate the body's own innate ability to heal itself. An amazing medical technique provides a powerful example of how your body can overcome injuries or chronic pain the natural way by going straight to the source of healing -- your own stem cells. This exciting technique is known as Regenerative Medicine, and we're proud to offer it among our many treatment options at Integrated Healthcare Centers.

What is Regenerative Medicine?

relieve pain with Regenerative MedicineAccording to the Mayo Clinic, Regenerative Medicine is a "game-changing area of medicine with the potential to fully heal damaged tissues and organs, offering solutions and hope for people who have conditions that today are beyond repair."

Regenerative medicine has shown to help reduce chronic pain and inflammation. This makes invaluable for the treatment for repetitive strain injuries such as tennis elbow, golf elbow, runner's knee and other chronic connective tissue problems. One study of tennis elbow sufferers found that regenerative medicine reduced their pain levels by 60 percent. Regenerative medicine can also be highly useful in reducing the symptoms of chronic degenerative joint ailments such as osteoarthritis.

Background on Stem Cells

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells, a kind of "blank slate" cell that can take on the form of other cells around it as needed. Every specialized cell in your organs, blood, bones, muscles, and nervous system began as a stem cell before taking on its final form.

Stem cells also have the ability to summon other stem cells to their location, where already-specialized cells emit substances called cytokines to transform them into similar types of cells. The more stem cells damaged tissue has access to, the better it can create the new specialize cells it needs to repair and rejuvenate itself.

How do we put your stem cells to work in the healing process?

The simplest method involves the use of platelet-rich plasma, or PRP. Our Garland and San Antonio regenerative medicine clinic begins by drawing some of your blood. We then extract the platelets, stem cells and other potent healing elements until we have PRP, which we then inject directly into the injured or degenerated tissue. Over several weeks of treatment, the concentrated mass of stem cells are put to good use by your body, allowing for rapid healing and recovery.

Regenerative Medicine at Integrated Healthcare Centers in Garland and San Antonio

As you can see, regenerative medicine falls right into one of our specialties here at Integrated Health Care Centers -- the use of powerful, state-of-the-art techniques that enhance the body's ability to perform its own healing processes as speedily and completely as possible. Of course, not everyone is necessarily a good candidate for these procedures. If your problem is more akin to a structural impingement (a herniated disc pressing on nearby nerve roots, for example) than to tissue damage or degeneration, then we may recommend spinal decompression, physical therapy or other treatment methods instead.

Contact our clinic today to schedule an initial consultation at our regenerative medicine clinic in Garland or San Antonio. We'll be happy to discuss your symptoms and evaluate your condition in detail before making the appropriate recommendations.
