Phase 2: Corrective Care

Teaming Up for Optimal Health

Most chiropractors regard the elimination of symptoms as the easiest part of a persons care. If all that the chiropractor does is to reduce the pain and stop there, the chances of the condition recurring are much greater. In order to prevent a rapid recurrence of symptoms, it is necessary to continue receiving care even though your symptoms are gone.

During the correction / restorative phase of your care, you will not have to receive adjustments as often as you did during the first phase of care and, depending on your particular circumstances, you may begin doing exercises and stretches either at the center or at home to help accelerate your healing.

Do not be discouraged if you have mild flare-ups in your symptoms on occasion. This is normal. Flare-ups are bound to occur during this phase because your body has not fully healed. Depending on the severity of your injury or condition and how long you have been suffering from it, this phase of your care may last anywhere from a few months to a couple of years.

Why is chiropractic so important to correct posture?

Let's have a look at the proper posture in the neck to answer this question. The first thing to realize is that the skull's inability to properly forward flex on the neck is the beginning of an abnormal posture. This is a very common problem caused by accidents, stress, poor sleeping and posture habits, birth trauma and many other incidents. This will always produce a forward head posture.

In most cases, a forward head position will cause a loss of the cervical lordotic curve.
This incorrect head position leads to improper spinal function throughout the entire spine. A chain reaction of changes down the whole spine will occur when the head/neck position isn't correct.

This head in a forward posture can add up to 30 pounds of abnormal leverage on the cervical spine. It results in a loss of lung capacity by as much as 30% which can lead to heart and blood vascular problems.

A secondary reaction to a loss of the lordotic curves in the spine is that the gastrointestinal system is effected, particularly the large intestine. A loss of good bowel function and evacuation is a common sequalae.

A forward head position can also cause an increase in discomfort or pain. The reason being, when the spinal vertebrae are not in proper motion, there is a decrease in endorphin release and therefore more pain is experienced.

A common cause of fatigue is an unbalanced spinal column. Your head weighs about as much as a bowling ball. If your head is off-centered, "carrying" it can exhaust you. Your 24 moveable vertebrae, sacrum, hips and pelvis also need proper alignment in order to make efficient use of your energy. A modest imbalance in the spine could translate into a considerable amount of wasted energy as the hours, days, weeks and months add up.

  • "As a long time sufferer of migraine headaches I was open to new treatments for any relief. I was reluctant to try a chiropractor but after my initial consolation all of my concerns and questions were addressed and explained to me with no obligation to proceed. After a few visits I personally experienced dramatic improvement and much lower frequency of my migraines. Dr. Deprez takes the time to relate with his patients and really listen to their expectations in order to move towards a solution. I have no hesitation in recommending Dr. Deprez to any of my colleagues, friends or family. Moore's Chiropractic team's commitment to professionalism and quality care has secured me as a client and friend. If you are considering using the services of a chiropractor I strongly recommend Moore Chiropractic."
