Graston: What Is It and Who Should Try It?

Graston: What Is It and Who Should Try It?

Have you heard about Graston but still unsure what it is and if it is for you? Lifetime Health and Wellness can answer some of your questions about the Graston Technique and help you understand. We have years of experience providing residents of Westminster and Bloomfield with natural and effective chiropractic care.

What is the Graston Technique?

The Graston Technique, or GT, uses soft finished metal implements to “scrape” the skin’s surface. This helps release scar tissue and fascial restrictions beneath the skin and effectively treats all soft tissue conditions, chronic or acute. It aids patient rehabilitation by promoting faster recovery times and higher success rates for the restoration of range of motion, normal function, and pain relief.

Side Effects

Red skin and some bruising are the most known side effect of treatment, but these tend to fade fast. Side effects such as these are mostly cosmetic and do not take away from the effectiveness of the treatment and the faster healing times that the technique promotes.

Who Should Consider the Graston Technique?

Conditions that the Graston Technique are suited for include:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Hip and back pain
  • IT band conditions
  • Scar tissue
  • Post-mastectomy
  • Rotator cuff tendonitis
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Lumbar strain
  • Other types of muscle or joint pain conditions

Our chiropractor will evaluate your condition to determine whether or not Graston Technique adjustments will benefit you.

How Many Sessions Should I Get?

No matter what you are seeking the treatment for, most patients start seeing significant results within 6-12 treatment sessions. Some report incredible pain management and better mobility in as little as 1-3 sessions. It is all dependent on the patient and their unique situation.
