Treatment Concussion Faq

At Lifetime Health and Wellness, our chiropractors can treat a concussion as a result of a sports injury, auto accident injury, or anything else. If you have a concussion, want to know how chiropractic can treat it, were injured and want to know if you might have a concussion, or have any other questions about head trauma, read on for advice from our chiropractors.

How do you get a concussion? Head trauma or injury can lead to a concussion. If you fell and hit your head, suffered a blow to the head, or were shaken violently, you are at risk of developing a concussion.

What are the symptoms of concussion? Symptoms of concussion include headaches, nausea, vomiting, light sensitivity, irritation, fatigue, and depression. Many become disoriented or confused. Instead of waiting for these symptoms to appear we recommend you see one of our chiropractors if you hit your head. The sooner after your injury you come in, the earlier we will begin treatment and the faster you can heal from the concussion.

How does a chiropractor treat concussion? Our chiropractors can make neck, head, and spine bone adjustments to alleviate pressure and realign the cranial bones after head injury. We do this through manual adjustments of the cervical and thoracic spine, and by adjusting cranial bones using the CATS Cranial Adjustment technique (see more information located under our "Services" tab). Our adjustments restore your health and alleviate concussion symptoms.

Are cranial adjustments painful? Our cranial adjustments are not painful. We only apply gentle pressure, and take care not to make you uncomfortable. You may hear popping and cracking as we adjust your cranial bones, but this is not an indication of pain or a problem.

Can acupuncture help with concussion? Yes! Acupuncture can help with recovery from a concussion. Dr. Snyder can administer acupuncture treatments to soothe concussion symptoms and promote recovery by nourishing the nervous system.

Can youth that have concussions be treated by a chiropractor? Our chiropractors welcome patients of all ages for all injuries including concussion. If your minor child has a concussion as a result of a sports injury, bicycle fall, or anything else, we can provide safe and effective treatment.

How long does it take to recover from a concussion? The time it takes to recover from a concussion depends on the severity of your injuries and how long it takes you to come in for treatment. We will give you a thorough evaluation on your first visit and develop an individualized concussion recovery program. At this point, we can estimate how many times we would like to administer cranial adjustments, acupuncture, and chiropractic treatment so you have an informed idea of what to expect.
