Common Auto Accident Injuries

Even if you don't notice any symptoms of an injury immediately following your accident, there is a good chance symptoms could develop within the next 12 to 48 hours. This is especially true in spinal injuries, as these often result in damage to the ligaments, muscles, and tendons supporting the spine itself. Because of the adrenalin that you experience when you get into an auto accident and the fact that these injuries usually don't show symptoms until later (when soreness and stiffness occurs), it is not uncommon for people who have been involved in auto accidents to assume they're uninjured at first.

This condition occurs when the upper (cervical) spine is forced forward and the ligaments, tendons, and other supporting structures around the spine become damaged. Pain, soreness, and neck stiffness are among the most common symptoms.

In addition to whiplash, many people who have been involved in auto accidents may also suffer from herniated or bulging discs between the vertebrae. These occur at the time of impact and can result in sharp, shooting pain in localized areas along the spine.
