How Can a Chiropractor Relieve Joint Pain?

A chiropractor, through non-invasive spinal manipulation (and other techniques), helps align your nervous system. A properly aligned neural network can help improve your body’s natural ability to heal, avoiding the need for medication or unwanted side effects.

A chiropractic visit begins with a careful assessment of your current condition to determine the cause of joint pain, stiffness, or loss of one’s range of motion. Therapy that targets soft tissue helps to alleviate pain and stiffness while encouraging an increase in your range of motion. In addition, the chiropractor and professional staff at Starwood Chiropractic can teach you how, as a preventative measure, to avoid the movement that caused the current injury.

Common Causes of Joint Pain

Body joints are the intersections or connections where bones meet. A joint’s supportive design allows bones to move freely in many directions. Joint pain is common, and the likelihood of joint pain increases as one gets older and refers to any type of soreness or aches – from an injury or specific condition that may impact a body joint.

  • Arthritis – Arthritis refers to a condition of the joints characterized by pain and stiffness. It varies widely and can be somewhat minor, or for some, quite debilitating. Arthritis can potentially impact men, women, and even children. All too often, it is a chronic condition, that worsens progressively.  There are two main types of arthritis -
  • Osteoarthritis – is a degenerative disease that is the result of ‘wear and tear’ or cartilage breakdown within the joint. Osteoarthritis (OA) is recognized to be the most common form of arthritis (and joint pain and stiffness) for adults who are older than 40.
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) – is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the inner joint’s protective membrane. About one and one-half million Americans are afflicted with Rheumatoid Arthritis, but most often, it impacts women. RA inflames the joint, which makes it painful to move.

Other causes of joint pain or inflammation include injuries, tendinitis, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, infectious diseases, or simply overuse of the joint – to name a few.
