Allergy Relief with Acupuncture

Spring is almost here!  Warm weather and longer days are on the way. And so is the pollen.  For some, sinus problems, itchy eyes, muscle aches and headaches are signs of spring. Yes, its allergy season. Although medicines can be very effective at treating the allergic response, they come with a host of side effects.  They can leave you tired, suppress your immune system, and in the case of spray inhalers, they can not only become addictive but eventually lose their effectiveness over time.  So before you go and grab the Benadryl, Claritin or Allegra, there is another way to treat season allergies: acupuncture.

Acupuncture and traditional Chinese Medicine look at allergies a little differently than allopathic or western medicine.  There are points to use for symptomatic relief and, depending on your own body’s constitution, a plan of points to help balance you and perhaps prevent and eliminate your spring allergies.  The best approach is on an individual plan, and now is the time to begin - before the allergy season is in full bloom.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), each season is linked to an organ in the body and a meridian or pathway that connects to that organ. Spring is the liver’s system time of year.  The liver is still trying to thrive in early spring and acupuncture can help to restore balance to the liver system.

The key to effective allergy relief is to balance the body’s root, and then treat the branches.  Meaning, the root is the body out of balance and the branches are the symptoms of the allergy.  There are approximately seven (7) points to use for symptomatic relief, and often the patient will feel sinus pressure relief almost immediately. Like everything else in life, balance is key for physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Before the serious suffering of allergy season takes hold, call our office at Greenapple Sports & Wellness for an appointment to discover how acupuncture can help.
