How Does Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Work?

How Does Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Work?

When someone comes to see us at Summit Medical Care Center, one of the most common medical issues we get asked about is back pain. There are numerous causes of back pain. These include a herniated disc, pinched nerves, paraspinal muscle tenderness, and more. Regardless of the cause, it is our job to help everyone in Broomfield recover with expert chiropractic care. One of the options that our chiropractors may leverage is something called non-surgical spinal decompression. There are a few points that everyone should keep in mind.

What is Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression?

The spine is a network of nerves, bones, and muscles. Occasionally, when these nerves leave the spine, they can be pinched by the vertebrae. As a result, people will start to feel back pain. Often, this pain presents as a pain that shoots down an arm or leg. There are a number of reasons why the vertebrae might be pinching these nerves. In some cases, this might be due to a herniated disc. In other cases, there might be a bone fracture or degeneration of the spine. Regardless, pressure on the nerves can be painful.

The goal of spinal decompression is to relieve this pressure. When a chiropractor uses spinal decompression, the goal is to place traction on the back. This traction is used to stretch the vertebrae. When the vertebrae are stretched, there is more room for the nerves to travel. This relieves the pressure on the nerves, helping to alleviate the back pain in the process. This is the goal of spinal decompression.
