Gluten Testing

CYREX LABS: Array 2: Intestinal Antigenic Permeability (Leaky Gut)
This test is to determine whether gluten sensitivity has progressed far enough to cause leaky gut syndrome.  Gluten causes inflammation in the gut which leads to microscopic holes to perforate the intestinal lining. Leaky gut allows undigested food particles, bacteria, parasites and other pathogens to escape into the bloodstream, where they don’t belong, triggering food sensitivities, allergies and inflammation in any part of the body. Cyrex Labs looks for specific antibodies in the blood to see if you have a leaky gut, how bad your leaky gut may be and if bacteria, parasites and fungi and their toxins are leaking into your bloodstream.
Cyrex Labs tests antibodies in the blood for the following:

• Occludin/Zonulin IgG, IgA, IgM : to determine if the junction between gut cells is breaking down
• Actomyosin IgA:  determines if the actual gut cells themselves are being broken down. This is seen in a severe leaky gut diagnosis.
• Lipopolysaccharides(LPS) IgG, IgA, IgM: determines if there is bacterial infection and if bacterial waste is accumulating in the gut and escaping into the blood stream through the leaky gut.
This test shows exactly which of these mechanisms is causing your leaky gut and helps us tailor the proper “leaky gut” restoration program for you.

CYREX LABS: Array 3: Wheat/Gluten Sensitivity: The Wheat Molecule and
                                        It’s Components/Proteome Reactivity/Autoimmunity
Now that you understand Array 2 and the mechanisms of leaky gut syndrome, let’s take a look at the root cause: the wheat molecule. The term gluten sensitivity describes the fact that your body’s immune system is producing cells called ANTIBODIES against one or several components of the wheat grain. These antibodies are capable of finding and attacking wheat or any of wheat’s constituents, and they all have different names. While most conventional tests only test tor the Alpha Gliadin protein and/or the Transglutaminase enzyme, wheat is much more complex. Cyrex Array 3 tests for 23 components of wheat to test for gluten sensitivity and Celiac Disease. Cyrex tests for the following antibodies:
• Wheat Grain Antibodies: Wheat IgG & IgA
• Gluten Protein Antibodies:
Alpha Gliadin, 33 & 17 MER IgG/IgA, Gamma Gliadin, 15 MER IgG/IgA, Omega Gliadin IgG/IgA, Glutenin IgG/IgA
• Lectin Antibodies: Wheat Germ Agglutenin IgG/IgA
• Transglutaminase and Gliadin-Transglutaminase  IgG/IgA
• Prodynorphin IgG/IgA
• Gluteomorphin IgG/IgA
• Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase (GAD65) IgG/IgA

This test is for those people who have been tested with conventional tests for gluten sensitivity and their tests have come back negative because they do not react to Alpha Gliadin and they continue to have health challenges.
Cyrex Array 3 is also for people who want to see if they are gluten sensitive or perhaps have Celiac Disease. If you continue to eat gluten containing foods and have digestive problems, if you have chronic health issues or an autoimmune disease, this is the only “true” Gluten Sensitivity test!

CYREX LABS: Array 4: Gluten-Associated Sensitivity and Cross-Reactive
                                         Foods
By this point you know whether or not you have leaky gut syndrome (Array 2) and what portions of the wheat molecule you react to and the symptoms associated with it (Array 3). However, we are still missing a big piece of the puzzle:  common cross-reactive foods. Cross reactivity refers to the phenomenon that certain molecules of food look so much like gluten that the body actually mistakes the food for gluten and forms antibodies against it! Consuming foods you are cross-reacting to can produce symptoms identical or very similar to the one you experience when you consume gluten. Cyrex tests 24 foods in this array including the following cross-reactive foods:
• Rye, Barley, Polish Wheat (Kamut), Spelt, Oats
• Cow’s milk (Casein), Milk Butyrophen, Whey protein, Casomorphin
• Milk Chocolate, American cheese Coffee, Yeast

These foods are not cross-reactive, but that people on a gluten free diet are frequently sensitive to:
• Sesame, Sorghum, Quinoa, Rice, Hemp, Millet, Tapioca, Buckwheat
• Amaranth, Corn, Soy, Potato(not sweet potato)

If antibodies are found to any of the above foods, they must be removed from the diet entirely!

Cyrex Array 4 is of great clinical significance because it explains why people continue to have reactions even after giving up gluten. If you are gluten free and continue to suffer from chronic health issues and flare ups in any autoimmune disorder, this test will greatly help streamline your food choices in order to get your health back!

CYREX LABS: Array 5: Multiple Autoimmune Reactivity Screen
Array 5 will test to see which parts of your body are being affected by gluten sensitivity. Less than 10 years ago, it was recognized that antibodies against self-tissue, the primary mechanism in the development of autoimmune disease, were present years before any symptoms were recognized in the body. Now Cyrex Labs is able to test for these Predictive Antibodies to see what specific autoimmune diseases a patient may develop in the future.
Cyrex is able to currently test for the following:
• Joint/Bone Autoimmune Reactivity
• Neurological/Brain Autoimmune Reactivity
• Autoimmune Diabetes
• Cardiovascular Disease
• Autoimmune Thyroid and Adrenal Disease
• Autoimmune Liver Disease
• Autoimmune Gastrointestinal Disease

The development of an autoimmune disease may be influenced by a triad of factors: genetic predisposition, immune system response to environmental exposures (toxic chemicals, infectious agents such as parasites and bacteria etc and food sensitivities) and intestinal permeability. There is a close relationship between developing autoimmunity and the presence of inflammatory conditions in the gastrointestinal tract.
The significance of Array 5 is that now Functional Medicine professionals can diagnose a patient with a specific autoimmune disorder much earlier rather than waiting for increased symptoms, sub-optimal health and tissue/organ destruction to occur. Early detection would give a “window of opportunity” to address, arrest and even in some cases, reverse the autoimmune condition.
