Herniated Disc: What Your Louisville Chiropractor Wants You To Know

If you're struggling with back pain, you may have a herniated disc. Our Louisville chiropractor at Highland Chiropractic can help. Read on to learn more about the signs and symptoms of a herniated disc.

What Is A Herniated Disc?

In between the vertebrae of the spine are round pedicels of soft tissue, known as discs. The outer edges of the disc are made of a tougher material than the soft centers. Injuries can cause small tears in the tough outer layer of the disc, which can cause some of the soft material to slip, or herniate, through the tear's opening. This soft material can press against nerves in the back.

How Do I Know If I Have A Herniated Disc?

Most people who have a herniated disc experience pain, tingling, and numbness in the back and in one or more limbs. Some people do not notice any symptoms at all, and only know that they have herniated a disc because a doctor finds it on an x-ray.

How Can A Herniated Disc Be Treated?

After our chiropractor evaluates your condition, he will develop a course of treatment specific to you. This course of treatment may include chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression, lifestyle and nutrition advice, and corrective exercises.

Will My Herniated Disc Go Away On Its Own?

It's possible that your herniated disc may go away on its own, but it's also possible that without treatment, the disc will herniate further and require surgery. If you think you may have a herniated disc, it's important to seek chiropractic treatment right away, before the problem becomes worse.
