Chiropractic Techniques in Louisville

The foundation of chiropractic care is the chiropractic/spinal adjustment.  It is used to realign the vertebrae and extremity joints in order to reduce pain and restore range of motion.

The Spinal Adjustment

A spinal adjustment can be performed using manual pressure from our chiropractor’s hands or with a hand-held instrument known as an adjuster.  Both methods apply a force to the misaligned vertebrae in order to restore range of motion.

Injuries Treated with Spinal Adjustments

Spinal adjustments are effective at reducing lower back and neck pain.  They can be used to reduce the frequency of headaches and migraines.  They can be used to help heal whiplash, sciatica and herniated discs.  Additionally, spinal adjustments can be used to help heal repetitive motion injuries and sports injuries in the back and extremities.

Types of Chiropractic Adjustments Practiced in Louisville

There are several different types of chiropractic techniques available at your Louisville Chiropractor: including diversified technique, Thompson technique and Activator Technique.

Diversified Technique

The Diversified Technique is the most common type of spinal adjustment.  It can be used on the vertebrae and extremity joints.  This technique involves a fast, short thrust in order to correct the joint’s position, reduce your pain and heal your injury.

Thompson Technique

The Thomson Technique employs the use of a specially designed chiropractic table.  During your treatment, certain sections of the table are adjusted.  When our chiropractor performs the adjustment, he only has to use a slight pressure.  The table performs the rest of the adjustment.  Some individuals find this method more comfortable than other traditional forms of spinal manipulation.

Activator Technique

The Activator Technique is a treatment method and device used as an alternative to manual chiropractic of the spine or joints. It is generally seen as a softer technique. It allows for precise energy to be delivered in a 3 millisecond pulse.

Chiropractic Adjustments with our Chiropractor

Chiropractic adjustments with our chiropractor are effective and comfortable.  During your treatment, the misalignments in your spine will be located.  A short, quick thrust will be applied in order to push the vertebrae back into its proper alignment.  This will reduce pain and inflammation and restore the range of motion of the joint.  During the adjustment, you may hear air entering the joint or a popping sound.  This is perfectly normal.  After the adjustment, you may feel slightly sore.  It should dissipate within a day.  It may take several adjustments before your spine remains in its proper alignment.
