When you visit a chiropractor in the hopes of getting some relief for the pain that you’re dealing with, your chiropractor will work to curate a plan to help your pain. In order to have a successful treatment plan built for you, the first step is to complete a functional movement assessment. This test is the first step to your healing process.

Functional Movement

What is a Functional Movement Assessment?

The Functional Movement Assessment is a test that helps gauge your range of motion and in turn helps your chiropractor determine what treatment plan will work best for your circumstance. The assessment consists of a set of seven full-body movement tests that will gauge your body’s starting point at your first visit.

The seven movements the human body can perform include: pull, push, squat, lunge, hinge, rotation, and gait. To test these movements, your chiropractor will have you demonstrate different motions. For example, you may be asked to perform a deep lunge. Each of these movements activate one of the major muscle groups in the body.

What Does a Functional Movement Test Tell Your Doctor?

Once your assessment is complete, you will receive a rating that helps your chiropractor see how well you can perform the tasks at hand. In turn, the results provide a better idea of what will benefit you in the long run and what treatments will work best for your particular issues.
