Feet & Ankles

Feet & Ankles

Your feet and ankles are one of the most important structures of your skeletal system. Almost everything you do, whether it is going to the grocery store or playing professional football, all starts with your feet and ankles. They are the foundation of your body. Your feet and ankles have 3 major functions: they support your body when you are standing, lifting, walking, running etc. In fact according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) your feet walk approximately 1,000 miles per year (that's a lot of walking). Secondly, they assist you and are the catalyst for moving your body. Lastly they protect your body by acting like shock absorbers. Once again quoting the AAOS your feet cushion up to one million pounds of pressure during a one-hour strenuous exercise. Luckily your knees, hips, pelvis and spine also assist in this shock absorbing.

The position of your feet and ankles can dictate the position of every structure of your body. For example, if a bone is out in your foot causing you to slightly lean to one side (so slight you might not even notice it), it can strain the knee and hips on that same side. Shortly after, your lower back will begin to hurt because it is compensating for the knee and hip. Now you begin to lean forward because of your lower back pain. Soon you begin to walk, work and play by putting your neck in odd positions to keep your eyes up and looking forward. Next your neck begins to hurt. So in reality, a neck problem can start with a bone being out in your foot and/or ankle.

At Back In Line Chiropractic Center, we are considered extremity specialists. We attended additional schooling to become Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioners. We believe the feet and ankles to be the foundation of the whole body. We check them for misalignments in any of the 26 bones in each foot. If any misalignments are found, (which more often than not there are) we correct the misalignment with precise chiropractic adjustments. In most cases, there is immediate relief of some to all of the pain in the foot and ankle with the first adjustment. Since the feet are the foundation of the whole body, the affects of having them adjusted can be more far-reaching than one can imagine. So, if you come in with a neck, back or knee problem, you can bet that we will be checking your feet as well. It would not be a complete job if we did not.
