What to Expect

Fixing Your foundation

Chiropractic care is like re-building an existing house - certain things have to happen in a particular order in order for everything to stand strong and work correctly. When re-vamping a house, if you try to re-build the walls before you fix the foundation, your walls will be weak and eventually collapse. If you tried to re-build the roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. The same principles hold true for your body. Your body has to go through a particular plan of care in a particular order to correctly and fully repair itself. There are four general phases of chiropractic care . . .

Phase 1: Break-down & Relief Care

When you come into our office, our main objective is to fix you.  As a side affect we get you out of pain. We start by breaking down scar tissue, alleviating muscle spasms, increasing disc space and using modalities to help decrease pain. During this phase our patients report either no pain or a great reduction of pain; but at the same time feeling sore from the treatment. Depending on the severity of your problem, it is typical to need care 2-3 times per week for 6-12 weeks.

Phase 2: Build-Up and Restructure Phase

During this phase, our goal is to elongate shortened muscles, increase range of motion and restore balance and normal function. It is typical to need care 4-8 times per month for 6-24 months, depending on your overall health and the severity of your problem.

Phase 3: Strengthening Phase

If we just fix the problem and relieve your pain, what stops your pain form coming back? Rehabilitation and strength training! Be ready to sweat! During this phase we start training the weak muscles by utilizing full range of motion exercises while under load. As you progress from, here, we then use weight training and plyometric exercises to stabilize and strengthen the area of involvement. It is quite possible, at the end of this phase, for you to feel better than you were before the injury.

Phase 4: Wellness

Yay, you have graduated! Once your body has fully healed, it is important to come in for periodic adjustments to avoid future problems.  It’s like changing the oil in your car, your car might be running fine but you do it anyways to prevent future problems. Usually this requires a quick visit to adjust your spine and/or extremities.  Most people are on a twice a month schedule, some once a month and others four times a month depending on your lifestyle and needs. In general, our patients report being the happiest during this phase of there treatment.

Fortunately the happiness does not end here. During phase four we recommend you getting a personal trainer. We want a personal trainer to further the work we have begun. Although there is an expense that goes along with having a personal train, I propose that you can save time, money and physical anguish using a personal trainer. He or she can help you finally achieve your personal gains and do it faster and with less injury they you ever could on your own. If you have a personal trainer then we here at Back In Line Chiropractic Center would like to speak to that person about your actual needs, as well as do’s and don’ts for your particular body. If you do not have a highly trained personal trainer then we can recommend one for you. Here’s to you being your best.
