Fibromyalgia

What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is a mystery in many ways. But, for those who suffer from fibromyalgia, it is a pain in more ways than one. The symptoms of fibromyalgia are so many and so varied that diagnosis is often difficult, and treatment can be hit or miss.

Chiropractic treatment, however, offers one bright spot in the options available to those afflicted by this sometimes debilitating syndrome, some 5.8 million Americans. Fibromyalgia affects the body's soft tissues and muscles. Pain is often "paired," or present in all four body quadrants; but symptoms also frequently are similar to the pain of arthritis or other inflammatory diseases. Patients can suffer depression, have problems sleeping, feel stiffness upon waking, have trouble with alternating bloating or constipation and diarrhea, and experience severe muscle pain as well as lingering tenderness at specific trigger points. A positive diagnosis often includes blood tests and X-rays, and in order to rule out other conditions, your doctor may monitor your condition closely for a period of three months or more.

Treatments for Fibromyalgia available in Mission Valley, San Diego

Just as there is no consensus about the causes of the condition, there is no magic cure for fibromyalgia. But the non-invasive, gentle adjustments performed by our chiropractor do help in many instances. Also helpful are other measures commonly employed in conjunction with chiropractic care, including massage, stress reduction therapy, and physical therapy. By unleashing the body's own restorative powers, chiropractic treatment enables our clients to replace pain with healing energy, and to work toward their own health and wellness in partnership with our trained professionals.

Science journals report that a majority of fibromyalgia sufferers react favorably to chiropractic treatment after just an initial visit.

By concentrating on the spinal cord and employing proven techniques that restore function, relieve pinched nerves, assure proper alignment and forestall more severe problems, our professional staff is able to address many chronic complaints. Patient education is a second, important aspect of our personalized treatment programs. We can advise you regarding proper posture, beneficial exercise, range of motion practice, and ways to avoid future back injury.

Because all three spinal regions -- the lower back or lumbar spine, the middle "workhorse" area and the upper or cervical spine -- are interrelated, we focus our attention on specific areas depending on the pain you currently experience. In the case of fibromyalgia, a generalized soreness or migrating pain that occurs in different parts of the body at different times may require a multi-pronged approach to treatment as well. We will work with you to try to alleviate severe attacks. We will also suggest lifestyle changes that may help not only to reduce the pain, but to help you accept your condition.

Of course, we all hope that a cure or prevention for fibromyalgia may be found. But, until then, we at DiSabatino Chiropractic and Rehab in Mission Valley, San Diego can help you deal with the day-to-day manifestations. Won't you contact us at (619) 322-4626 to schedule an initial visit? Let us help you regain a positive attitude and live your life with less pain.

Testimonials

Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

I love going to see Dr. DiSabatino; it honestly seems miraculous how much better I feel after a treatment. He helps me with my running – my hip flexors get really tight after long runs – and he helps me feel better at work. I notice myself sitting up straighter and have fewer knots in my shoulders and neck even after long hours of sitting at my desk. You should check DiSabatino Chiropractic & Rehab, Inc. You will not be disappointed.
