Chiropractic Adjustments FAQs

Top 5 Chiropractic Adjustments FAQs

If you are new to chiropractic care, you may be wondering what to expect during your first visit to our chiropractor, how chiropractic adjustments work, and whether these adjustments are really the best treatment option for your pain. Below, our Mission Valley San Diego CA chiropractor Dr. Nicholas DiSabatino answers five of our patients’ most frequently asked questions about chiropractic adjustments.

#1: What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is a treatment technique for bringing correct alignment back to the spine. When the spine is out of alignment, a herniated or slipped disc may compress nearby nerves and muscles. This pressure can restrict mobility, trigger pain and exacerbate health problems. Chiropractic adjustments are a conservative treatment technique for restoring alignment back to the spine.

#2: What do chiropractic adjustments treat?

Chiropractic adjustments are often the first step for relieving back pain, neck pain, headaches and other pain conditions. Our Mission Valley San Diego chiropractor recommends adjustments for treating a number of musculoskeletal health conditions, including back, neck and headache pain from herniated or slipped discs, whiplash injuries, sciatica, shoulder pain, bulging and herniated discs, and scoliosis.

#3: What is the ‘popping sound’ associated with adjustments? Is that dangerous?

If you are new to chiropractic care or have never had an adjustment, it’s completely natural to worry about what to expect and whether they are safe. After all, your spine is the body’s foundation and the last thing you want to do is to put it in jeopardy! Adjustments are gentle, safe and effective. While you may feel slightly sore the day after your first adjustment, in general, receiving a chiropractic adjustment is accompanied by feelings of relief and relaxation rather than pain or discomfort. That popping sound you may hear is complete normal, too. The popping sound is simply the sound of gas being released from between the joints; it’s similar to the sound you might hear if you crack your knuckles.

#4: Am I a good candidate for chiropractic adjustments?

If you are struggling with recurring pain and searching for a safe, effective alternative to medication and surgery, then chiropractic care may be the right fit for your health needs. In order to determine whether you are a good candidate for care, our chiropractor will complete a comprehensive diagnostic exam. This exam is designed to identify the specific location of misalignments (also known as subluxations) within the spine. Once these misalignments have been identified, our chiropractor will discuss your different treatment options and whether chiropractic adjustments may be a good fit for your pain management needs. While most patients are good candidates for adjustments, some health conditions may contraindicate this treatment. For this reason, we discuss your full medical history during the initial consultation.

#5: How often should I receive adjustments?

The frequency of chiropractic adjustments depends on the severity of your pain condition and long-term health goals. Our goal is to provide the highest quality care in the safest, most effective way possible!

Testimonials

Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

I love going to see Dr. DiSabatino; it honestly seems miraculous how much better I feel after a treatment. He helps me with my running – my hip flexors get really tight after long runs – and he helps me feel better at work. I notice myself sitting up straighter and have fewer knots in my shoulders and neck even after long hours of sitting at my desk. You should check DiSabatino Chiropractic & Rehab, Inc. You will not be disappointed.
