Hot/Cold Therapy

Mission Valley, San Diego Chiropractor Offers Hot and Cold Therapy for Pain Management

When you are experiencing pain, you want relief. Hot and cold therapies are two, non-invasive ways to reduce your muscle and joint discomfort. Our chiropractor at DiSabatino Chiropractic and Rehab, Inc., Dr. Nicholas DiSabatino, is pleased to offer community members of Mission Valley, San Diego, CA, hot and cold treatments to help alleviate your pain. Plus, we can show you ways to use these pain-relieving techniques at home to further improve your comfort. Whether your pain is new or recurrent will determine which treatment is appropriate for you. Both have healing benefits and our chiropractor will use these techniques in combination with gentle manipulations and adjustments to align your body for optimum blood flow. Hot and cold therapy also supports your adjustments and can help maintain a healthy spinal position.

Chiropractic Heat Therapy

Heat therapy often works well for recurrent injuries or on-going pain. We use dry and moist heat therapies, depending on your condition. Moist heat tends to penetrate into the muscles and joints better and we maintain the heat at a constant temperature for even healing. Heat is the chosen therapy to help increase your range of motion and alleviate stiff joints. It helps to relax stiff muscles and tendons, which brings you more freedom of motion. Heat therapy works by:

  • Opening up blood vessels
  • Increases blood flow to the injured area
  • Speeds up the transportation of nutrients to the area to promote healing
  • Relaxes sore muscles

Heat therapy may also reduce muscle spasms associated with pain. We use caution with heat therapy and never apply it directly to your skin. Our chiropractor may recommend heat therapy of no longer than 20 minutes and will not use heat if you already have swelling. In that instance, cold therapy is used first.

Cold Therapy Benefits

Our chiropractor at DiSabatino Chiropractic and Rehab, Inc. recommend cold therapy to reduce swelling and inflammation. Cold therapy slows down blood flow to the area which helps to reduce your discomfort. Cold therapy is also beneficial to reduce muscle spasms and bruising. Cold therapy is the go-to choice for immediately after an injury and should be used for the first 24 to 48 hours. We can apply cold therapy in 20-minute intervals.

If you have suffered an instant injury from a fall, accident or sports incident, speak with our chiropractor, Dr. DiSabatino, about how to apply ice therapy to reduce the pain and swelling from bruises, bumps, strains and sprains.

Testimonials

Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

I love going to see Dr. DiSabatino; it honestly seems miraculous how much better I feel after a treatment. He helps me with my running – my hip flexors get really tight after long runs – and he helps me feel better at work. I notice myself sitting up straighter and have fewer knots in my shoulders and neck even after long hours of sitting at my desk. You should check DiSabatino Chiropractic & Rehab, Inc. You will not be disappointed.
