What Is Scar Tissue

What Is Scar Tissue?

When new cells are brought to the site of the injury to form healthy tissue, scar tissue may form. Many of these cells are collagen cells that may clump up, losing flexibility and strength. In humans, all of this is part of the natural healing process. We've all seen scars from injuries on the skin, but scars form from internal injuries as well. Internal scar tissue can cause pain and dysfunction, depending on its severity and location. At Secrest Family Chiropractic, in Scottsdale, Arizona, we have a number of solutions when it comes to dealing with scar tissue.

Scar Tissue Pain Relief and Healing

One noninvasive therapy that may help relieve or even get rid of the pain altogether is massage done by a knowledgeable chiropractor. Our chiropractor knows the locations and techniques to work with what are called trigger points to begin to loosen and unknot areas of scar tissue causing pain. This trigger point therapy also improves blood flow and circulation. Improved blood flow then stimulates healing.

Cold laser therapy is another technique that often brings improvement to soft tissue that is painful or inflamed. Cold laser therapy stimulates cellular regeneration while at the same time relieving inflammation and pain. Deep tissue massage may be effective for muscle groups that other techniques can't reach.

Graston Sports Therapy employs a number of handheld instruments to undo lumps of internal scar tissue inhibiting motion and causing pain.
