FAQ: Answers to Your Frequently Asked Questions on Lower Back Pain

It's very common for people to experience lower back pain, but what can be done about it? While mainstream doctors generally offer pain medications, injections and even surgery, we take a different approach at Golinsky Specific Chiropractic. We use natural approaches that have helped many people find real relief from back pain, instead of covering it up temporarily. If you’re interested in learning more, here are the answers to some of the questions we often hear about lower back pain and our natural treatment methods:

Q: How does lower back pain start?

A: There are various causes of lower back pain. It can happen because the vertebrae in your spine are not lined up correctly, or the discs are bulging or deteriorating. You might have a strain in the muscle or you were injured from an accident. It’s also possible that a health condition, such as arthritis, is causing the pain. During your consultation visit, Dr. Philip Golinsky or one of his associates will work to find the specific cause.

Q: How does a chiropractor relieve lower back pain?

A: At our chiropractic office, we rely on a few different treatment methods. We will come up with a treatment plan that best fits the cause of your pain and your health situation. For lower back pain, we often perform adjustments to align your spine with our hands, or we use spinal decompression technology to achieve similar results. We also offer other treatments, including cold laser therapy and electrotherapy.

Q: How do natural approaches help lower back pain?

A: The natural methods we utilize go straight to the underlying problem in a non-invasive way. While drugs help the pain for a little while but don’t actually solve the problem, our methods head to the source. For instance, adjustments to the spine take pressure off the nerves that are sending pain messages to the brain, and they also take away blockages that were interfering with your body’s ability to heal itself.

Q: Is the pain always starting in my lower back?

A: No, pain that you feel in one area of your body can be starting somewhere else. Improper posture, such as hunched shoulders, can throw off your whole body by putting more strain on other areas. Problems in your feet or legs can affect the way that you stand and walk, causing problems in your back as it tries to compensate. When the sciatic nerve that goes through the spine and into the leg is pinched, it can cause pain in your lower back and/or in your leg or buttock on one side of your body. Our chiropractor will look at your entire body and talk to you about all of your symptoms to figure out if your pain is associated with another part of your body.
