Our electronic muscle stimulation therapy sends healing currents throughout the injured area to treat muscle spasms, back pain, neck pain, post-surgery pain, muscle weakness, tendonitis, and acute/chronic pain problems.
By placing electrode patches on your skin's surface, our doctors can send healing electrical currents throughout the injured areas of your musculature. By controlling the location of the patches and the setting of the current, we can achieve a variety of healing goals. Electronic muscle stimulation is very safe and widely used.
What to Expect
One of our trained specialists will apply several soft electrode patches to a small area on your skin. These electrodes will be connected to an electronic muscle stimulation machine, or e-stim machine, via a thin wire. You may feel tingling and your muscles tightening or relaxing during treatment. Depending on the reason you are seeking treatment, we may ask you to contract your muscle while the e-stim machine sends electrical currents to that muscle.
A standard consultation lasts between 30 minutes to an hour.
On your first visit, we will request that you complete our patient forms. Our specialist will ask questions pertaining to your health history, concerns, and any pain or discomfort you have been experiencing. This will be followed by a physical exam. Depending on the severity, our doctor might request further examinations or X-rays.
How to Prepare
You do not need to prepare for an electronic muscle stimulation appointment. If you are seeking treatment for muscle pain, we recommend stretching regularly and staying hydrated after your appointment.
