For many, traveling is a favorite pastime; a time to relax and unwind from all the daily stresses. If you suffer from chronic pain, however, you might feel like you need a vacation from your vacation by the end of the trip. Your McMurray, PA, chiropractor and founder Dr. Scott Anderson, of Anderson Chiropractic, wants to share some tips to help alleviate those aches and pains so you can focus on what matters most - enjoying your getaway.
Your travel care should begin as soon as you arrive at the airport. Prevent a backache by using a trolley for your luggage. You should also sit as often as possible and use your time in line to stretch your neck, back, and leg muscles.
Once the plane is in the air and the seatbelt sign has been turned off, be conscientious about getting up and moving regularly. Avoid a backache, along with neck and shoulder pain, by keeping your back straight, with your feet on the floor and your neck and lower back supported. A neck pillow will also keep your neck properly aligned.
While a road trip is an exciting way to see the country, sitting for an extended period can lead to several aches and pains. Avoid a flare-up by sitting straight with your feet on the ground and your neck and back supported. Additionally, you must pull over every hour or so for a quick walk and stretch. You should also use your time in the car to do some light exercises. For example, contract and relax the muscles in your legs, roll your shoulders back and forth, and stretch your toes.
