Nasal Cranial Release FAQs

Top 5 Nasal Cranial Release FAQs: Dr. Anderson Answers Your Questions

Nasal cranial release is a chiropractic adjustment technique that treats pain and health problems associated with concussions and other head trauma. If you are new to nasal cranial release, it’s natural to have questions about what to expect from this treatment, how effective treatment is, and whether it is the right choice for your pain management and health needs. Below, our chiropractor Dr. Anderson answers five of the most frequently asked questions about nasal cranial release at Anderson Chiropractic.

1. What is nasal cranial release?

Nasal cranial release is a chiropractic adjustment technique that re-establishes the flow of the cerebral spinal fluid to the brain and spinal column. Pioneered by Dr. J. R. Stober in the 1930s, this technique adjusts the skull bones by using a small finger cot affixed to an inflatable device. The device is inserted into the nasal passageways for the adjustment to be made. Our chiropractor Dr. Anderson has successfully used this adjustment technique to help patients manage pain associated with concussions and head trauma.

2. Will nasal cranial release hurt?

Nasal cranial release is a safe, effective adjustment technique that is not painful. While patients may experience initial discomfort when the cot/balloon is inserted into the nasal passageway, the process is not painful. Since Dr. Anderson lubricates the finger cot/balloon before it is inserted into the nasal passageway, generally the patient does not even feel the insertion. Some patients describe the experience as a light sensation equivalent to an itchy nose or getting water up the nose.

3. What happens when the finger cot is inflated?

When Dr. Anderson inflates the finger cot, it fills up the nasal passageway and pushes on the nasal walls to open up the airways. As Dr. Anderson squeezes the pump device and inflates the balloon, the finger cot/balloon enlarges and moves its way through the nasal passageway. It moves into the upper back portion of the throat where it gently taps the wall lining that is directly in front of the sphenoid bone. As the lining is tapped, a cracking sound may occur. This sound is simply the skull joints popping and shifting back into place as built up pressure within the head is released. The entire process takes only three seconds

4. What are the side effects for nasal cranial release?

In the hours immediately following nasal cranial release adjustment, you may experience sore gums, a sore upper throat and a temporary sensation of exhaustion due to the release of stored negative energy. Light bleeding occasionally occurs due to the finger cot/balloon pressing up against the compressed walls of the nasal passageway. Following treatment, patients at Anderson Chiropractic routinely tell us that they experience a new ability to clearly breathe, increased energy, and facial proportion balance. Our patients experience a revived sense of well being and health.

5. Is nasal cranial release safe?

Yes, when a trained practitioner like Anderson Chiropractic’s Dr. Anderson performs nasal cranial release, this adjustment technique is safe and effective.
