Chronic Pain

Chronic Pain and Chiropractic Care

Defined as pain that lasts for at least 12 weeks, chronic pain can be frustrating and difficult to overcome. At Infinite Healing Center in Mesa/ East Valley Area, we understand that chronic pain can be complicated and difficult to treat, and we're up for the challenge.

Chronic Pain and Chiropractic Care

Chronic pain can present in any area of the body, even if it's not the area in which the pain originated. Some people with chronic pain report feeling dull aches and pains, while others report a sharper, burning pain. Chronic pain is different than normal pain. When the body experiences an injury, it's normal for pain signals to travel to the brain. As the area heals, the pain signals lessen, and eventually disappear. When someone experiences chronic pain, pain signals don't dissipate, even if the injury or issue has healed.

Causes of Chronic Pain

There are many different types of chronic pain. Some chronic pain is related to an illness, such as cancer. Surgery can also result in pain that doesn't go away, even after the site affected by the surgery has healed. Some people have chronic pain that does not seem to be connected to any injury or illness.

While researchers aren't exactly sure how chronic pain works, it's thought that the initial injury that caused the pain to begin damages nerves around the injury site. While this makes sense for people who have sustained an injury or have undergone surgery, it doesn't explain why some people suffer from chronic pain for no obvious reason. It's thought that chronic pain with no related injury may be caused by underlying health conditions, such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and other conditions related to nerve dysfunction.
