AMBROSIA FOR THE GODS - A RECIPE

A couple weeks ago I told you about rancid grains and how easily they go rancid. We were talking about whole grains that had been rolled or ground with all the grain still there including the germ of the grain where the majority of the oil is. I went to my favorite health food store called Lassen's here in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles. I bought some rye grains and some buckwheat-hulled. the rye is good for muscles and the buckwheat is more expensive but tasty.

At home I had whole oats from Bob's Red Mill a distributor of cereal products. I used 5 parts oats 1part rye and 2 parts buckwheat. This is completely arbitrary and the grain choice is arbitrary. Bob's had instructions for 3 cups water, 1 cup of the grain mixture and a quarter teaspoon of salt. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer for 50 to 60 minutes at lowest heat.

Sean, my son who had just flown in from Salt Lake City to LAX and to my house by Lyft jumped in my car and off to Trader Joe's where we picked up maple syrup and bacon. Back at home the grains had cooked and we dished this up. We added some butter, cinnamon and maple syrup. It was delicious. I urge you to try this sort of grain preparation for breakfast. The whole grains are rich in B vitamins not the synthetic ones we get in ALL high dose tablets such as B 50s or B 100s. And the oils will be not rancid as they are locked into the grain when cooked.

Go make yourself a great, tasty breakfast!

Sincerely,

Dr. Mike Spearman
