Description:
This course provides an overview of human biochemistry, including the general fundamentals of metabolism, the role of enzymes and enzyme kinetics and energy use and production. Carbohydrate, lipid, protein, nucleic acid, vitamin and mineral metabolism are examined in detail. An overview of genetic coding is introduced. Laboratory concepts are discussed during appropriate lectures. Correlations will be made to various clinical presentations using a computer case based program and instructor presentation of cases. The cases will emphasize clinical presentations and laboratory concepts related to Human Biochemistry with contributions from other courses in trimester one when appropriate.
