Student Organizations

Developing and sharpening the skills to lead, to collaborate, and to work as part of a health care team is a significant aspect of the Texas Chiropractic College experience.

Students at TCC benefit from an abundance of opportunities to participate in the dynamic activities of a healthy range of student organizations. Whether you are looking to hone your theoretical knowledge, practical skills, or extracurricular areas of interest, TCC has the outlets in which you can grow and thrive. There are many organizations available at TCC, so if you don't see what you are looking for, ask the Director of Student Support Services about other opportunities... or start your own initiative!

Student Body Association

A big part of why the learning experience at Texas Chiropractic College is such a positive one for students is that they play a significant role in shaping the institution’s culture and offerings. Much of this is done through the Student Body Association (SBA).

Once you enroll as a student at TCC, you will automatically become a member of the SBA—the College’s major student government organization. The president and vice president of each class at TCC serve on the SBA’s executive committee.

The primary responsibilities of the SBA include:

  • Representing the student body to the TCC administration
  • Supporting student organizations and activities
  • Serving on various institutional committees
  • Participating in TCC’s self-evaluation process

More than anything, the mission and purpose of the SBA is to give you, and every other student at TCC, an effective voice in the overall operation of the College.

The SBA Constitution and a list of committees with student representation may be found in the Vice President of Student Affairs Office.

Student American Chiropractic Association

When you become a chiropractor you will join a proud, talented, and committed global community of health care professionals. Coming together with those peers and colleagues to share knowledge is vital in order to further the profession. That’s the mission of the Student American Chiropractic Association (SACA).

SACA is a division of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), and gives students at TCC the opportunity to get a head start in networking and sharing knowledge within the profession.

As a member of SACA, you will join more than 6,000 fellow chiropractic students nationwide—from 18 institutions—who represent the future of the chiropractic field. Membership in SACA will offer you:

  • A variety of activities and events locally each year
  • National conferences and events
  • Online access to the Journal of the American Chiropractic Association

Students in the SACA also are automatically insured for $3,000 under the SACA life insurance plan.

Students in trimester 1 pay for their SACA membership through the mandatory TR1 fee. If a student transfers from another chiropractic college and is already a member of SACA, the fee is waived.

Student American Black Chiropractic Association

The purpose of the American Black Chiropractic Association (ABCA) is to help recruit, encourage and support black persons to study chiropractic. The organization encourages research and development of the science, philosophy, and art of chiropractic. It also donates time and service to health clinics, provides community education and facilitates the exchange of knowledge and experience among Doctors of Chiropractic. The ABCA was founded in 1982 by Dr. Bobby Westbrooks. (from the ABCA)

The Student American Black Chiropractic Association (SABCA) at TCC provides its members with the opportunity to:

  • Build professional relationships with various African-American chiropractors
  • Participate in numerous community service projects
  • Mentor fellow students
  • Assist TCC in recruiting qualified

Student Texas Chiropractic Association

The chiropractic profession has a long and proud history in the state of Texas. One reflection of this is the Texas Chiropractic Association (TCA), a non-profit organization representing the rights of all Doctors of Chiropractic, their staff, and their patients throughout the state.

The Student Texas Chiropractic Association (STCA) was organized in 1971 and provides students at TCC with opportunities to:

  • Connect with practicing Doctors of Chiropractic across the state
  • Connect with practicing Doctors of Chiropractic across the state
  • Develop professional leadership skills
  • Sharpen their abilities through the sharing of new knowledge in the field
  • Access the TCA Journal online

First trimester DC students pay for their STCA membership through the mandatory TR1 fee. If a student transfers from another chiropractic college and is already a member of STCA, the fee is waived.

The Ambassadors

The TCC Ambassadors got started from a series of conversations with former students. The group wanted to help new students as they started the Doctor of Chiropractic Program, and it wasn’t long before they decided that the best way to do that was to form a mentoring group on campus. From this group blossomed the Ambassadors.

Ambassadors are known for being sent out to other lands to represent their home country. The TCC Ambassadors are not much different in their duties from their international counterparts. They represent their college at all times. They may speak on behalf of the student body. They are sent out to help recruit future students to their chosen college and profession.

Each of these students selected to join the Ambassadors is held in high regard as leaders by their faculty and peers. These students have gone above and beyond the average student in helping others and preparing themselves for a bright future in Chiropractic.

SACA Sports Council

The SACA Sports Council is a club committed to furthering a student's ability to diagnose and treat injuries sustained by athletes. Sports council takes pride in being a "hands on" club; this includes palpation, physical examination, and the rendering of treatments. Treatments include manipulation, taping, bracing, and the gamut of passive and active modalities. Sports council appreciates the role of the chiropractic sports physician in the management and co-management of the athlete with other members of the healthcare team.

International Fellowship of TCC

The International Fellowship of TCC is a club committed to serve international students by providing a network of American and International peers as well as serve the TCC campus, encouraging an appreciation of the diversity of national cultures in the campus and in the profession of Chiropractic medicine.

FOWARD THINKING CHIROPRACTIC ALLIANCE OF TCC

The purpose of the Forward Thinking Chiropractic Alliance-TCC is to introduce a multi-national collection of Evidence-Based Chiropractors to TCC. This will provide opportunities for mentorship, preceptorship, and create business and job opportunities for new graduates. This club is in place to teach students to think critically of information presented to them and build relationships with influential members of the profession will still in the student role.

International Pediatric Chiropractic Association of TCC

The mission of the International Pediatric Chiropractic Association is to engage and prepare chiropractic students for success in practice. This will be accomplished by providing members with educational, clinical, and practical resources to strengthen their knowledge and applicability of the chiropractic family wellness lifestyle from conception, throughout pregnancy and childhood.
