Sports injuries can happen to elite athletes and those who play sports just as a hobby, but you can avoid frequent or serious injury by playing it smart before you go out on the field or court. If pain or injury occurs, consider gentle, effective chiropractic care from Chiropractic Partners to get off the injured list and back into the game!

Here are some simple yet effective measures you can take to prevent sports injuries:

  1. Get and stay strong: Practice your sport and and train the muscles you’ll be using most in the sport, along with the all-important core muscle strength. Include cardiovascular exercise to increase endurance so you can play safely.

  2. Be flexible: Stretch daily including before and after your game.

  3. Watch your posture: Make sure your form and movements are performed correctly.  If you're not sure, get professional training if necessary. Our doctors can also check your posture, give you posture tips, and exercises that strengthen your core!

  4. Protect yourself: Suit up in proper gear to shield vulnerable body areas.

  5. Pace yourself: Allow muscles to recover by taking a day off from training or playing your favorite sport.

  6. Call time outs: Schedule regular rest breaks while practicing or playing so that you don’t get overheated.

  7. Stay hydrated: Have water nearby at all times and drink before, during and after your activity.

  8. Check the weather report: Don’t play (or limit playing time) if it’s very hot outdoors or if you’re in direct sun.

  9. Enforce and follow safety rules: Make sure touch football lives up to its name and disallow risky behaviors during game play.

  10. Stop if anything hurts: Stop right away and consider seeing your chiropractor if pain persists, or if your range of motion becomes limited.
