What Is Low Level Laser Therapy?
Low level laser therapy ( LLLT) also sometimes called cold laser therapy, is a type of alternative treatment that uses a low power laser, or in some cases, a light-emitting diodes device. It moves across the surface of the skin in the area of pain or inflammation. This causes the user no pain, but it does create a cellular reaction within the tissues of the body. It is that treatment that helps to encourage natural healing within the body. Keep in mind that low level laser therapy is not an invasive procedure. There’s no downtime and there is no scarring or damage to the skin.
The user will lay on a bed while we use a handheld device passed over the skin. The light energy from that device will penetrate into the layers of the skin until it reaches the specific area of concern – generally a muscle group. Then, the laser’s energy is absorbed into the tissues there and interacts with the light sensitive elements within your body’s cells. This is much like the same process that occurs in photosynthesis.
